Yesterday they were all there, but today when I go to messaging, I just get an empty page. I have several hundred messages in my sent folder, but they are by message and not in threads.

I liked my threads! They make it easy to send messages to the same people over and over again.

Any ideas? (I did do a soft reset).

    Thanks in advance!!

I was so hoping for some advice! Maybe I didn't explain my problem well enough...

You know how when you go to Messaging from the phone screen shortcuts, it takes you to a list of all your chat threads? At least that's what my phone always did until last week. Now it is blank, and if I want to text someone I have to click on 'new' and then choose them from the 'to' down arrow and start typing. I have noticed it will show me the thread when I get a response from that person, but the threads are no longer all together on my main messaging inbox page. When they are there, it is so much easier to just click on the thread you want and start typing to send a text.

I probably didn't explain it any better, but does anyone have a suggestion? (I did double check my preferences and it is set to create chats always).

    Help please!! Thanks!

It sounds like your Messages_Database got hosed sometime between 9/8 and 9/9. If you regularly hotsync, but haven't HotSynced since 9/8, you may have a good copy of the Messages Database that you can restore. Otherwise, in order to regain your Chat format, you may have to delete the current database; of course, that means you'll lose what history you have now.

All the message threads in my inbox somehow jumped into my 'sent' folder, becoming individual messages in the process. Being a long-time Treo user I've learned to accept all kinds of data loss with a sigh of resignation and without question. I got most of my threads back by restoring them from an SD card backup (trying to retrieve them via a hard-reset and hotsync proved useless - it caused a reset loop). Have fun!

    Slem,

That is exactly what happened to me! I don't have a recent backup on my card, and hotsyncing hasn't helped. I don't care so much about losing the history, I'd just like for the current and new messages to go into a thread and stay in my inbox. I am noticing that nothing is staying in my inbox.

Bill G - how do I delete the current database? Do you think this would help with getting the messages to stay in my inbox and in a chat format?

    Thanks again!!

It's really just a guess on my part, but if the normal preference settings aren't working, then I think it's a good bet that the database is corrupt in some way...'might as well get rid of it.

You'll need a file manager, so first, install FileZ.

Launch it, tap "View and Edit Files", tap to the left of "Internal ", tap "Filename" to sort by file name and scroll down until you see the file, "Message Database". Tap to the left of its name (this places a checkmark next to it), select from the Item menu, "Delete" and tap the "Delete" choice on the subsequent dialog. (Actually, before going through the delete process, you might want to first make a copy of the file by choosing "Copy" instead of "Delete" and saving it to your expansion card).

Perform a soft reset and try messaging anew.

    Bill G -
Thanks for taking the time to walk me through it. I've done it and will see how it goes.

    Have a great day!!
