Well, I've manage to do something to screw up my wifes new 650. Out of the box, it had (Sprint) v1.08. First thing I did was to do the 1.12 upgrade, which went flawlessly on MY 650 when the upgrade came out. Hers, not so good, probably my fault.

Anyway, I tried a hard reset, assuming that would get it back to its out-of-the-box squeaky clean 1.08,with the intent of starting over and not screwing it up (I think I forgot the soft-reset called for in the directions. Bad idea). But it still shows 1.12!

    So, is this normal? Suggestions?

What exactly went wrong? Once you've upgraded a ROM, a hard reset won't reverse it.

How did you "screw it up"?

If you don't think the firmware updated was successful, you can always run it again. But it appears that it did complete successfully, because the handset is showing firmware 1.12

Any more info you could provide would be appreciated.

I'm getting a loop-- not the reset loop that's been thoroughly discussed here, but a reinstall loop. Every time I synch the treo, it goes through the install procedure on the handheld for the 1.12 update, then it reinstalls all of her files--including ones I'd deleted from the handheld. Couple of other odd problems, all with files that I'm pretty sure are in the ROM-- cant send or initiate IR beam, unit wont power off, something else that I'm forgetting about. Since these are all OS items, and they DID work (at least the power-off did, I'm pretty sure), I suspect that it is NOT a hardware problem, but who knows?

I am going to redo the update from scratch tonite (which I have not tried yet-- it was much too late last night when I was "helping" my wife with this...), then try a few other things, but any specific suggestions would be appreciated.

Right click the Hotsync Manager icon in the program tray...what's the action of the Backup conduit set to?

Will have to check when I get home-- my own non-botched one has Handheld overwriting desktop, so I think I get your drift-- thanks-- good starting point

Do you think that could be related to the re-install dilemna, though? I suppose if the desktop kept re-sending some of the updaters' files...

I have been having all kinds of problems since the 1.12 update. My mapopolis program no longer performs an address search without doing a reset and registering an error. Also, I have had the unit do a reset on it's own!! I tried performing the 1.12 again, (yes it registers) and I still have problems. I even did a hard reset and intalled one program (mapopolis) and it no longer works. Worked fine before 1.12.

This reinstall loop is a known issue for Mac users. The only fix is to edit the "Backups" folder and manually delete all of the files used in the update.

Well, Im on a PC, but I'll assume it could be the same issue. If I understand you right, I need to delete the files ON THE DESKTOP from the 'backups' folder related to the 1.12 update (the names of which I suspect will be pretty obvious)? Correct? Think I should re-install the 1.12 update first?

Thanks-- I appreciate ALL the quick replies

Unfortunately they are not obviously named. But... If you don't mind a rather simplistic solution from a Mac user.

Make copy of the current "Backups" folder in a safe location outside of the Palm Desktop (this will be our ace in the hole in case of disaster). Now delete the current "Backups" folder. Do a hard reset of the T650. Finally do a Hot Sync of the T650. If all has gone as expected you now should have a virgin T650 (with whatever Contact and Calendar data that was stored in the PC as part of the Palm Desktop). After verifying this delete the copy of the "Backups" folder create as the first step.

All you should need to do now is to install any third party Apps you may have lost in the hard reset.

I went through the backup folder and successfully figured out which files were related to the upgrade. Worked like a charm! Thanks for the help, Dawg!!
