I tried both xxx-xxx-xxxx and 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx to another Cingular phone (both phones are in USofA)

Am I making a mistake in addressing?

Absolutely nothing happens when I send a txt msg to my Treo or from my Treo. On the Treo, it gets added to the Sent folder. on the Motorola V300, the send attempts are added to the outbox. The messages don't make it through in either direction.

    Help.

Are you able to SMS other Cingular phones? Have you ever been able to? Can you send to those with other carriers?

I was able to SMS to a Verizon (non-Treo) phone, although it behaved very erratically. The recipient got 4-5 copies of the SMS at different intervals!

I'll try today to send to a Sprint (non-Treo) phone.

I sent a text to my daughter today at 8:29. She received it at 3:30 this afternoon

We are both on cingular (a family plan). Interestingly, texting myself only takes a few seconds.

Also... the timestamp from cingular (once it makes it through their system) seems to be about 30 minutes early:

    Me (3:47 pm): another test
    John(3:19 pm): another test

Bill G kindly offered to send me an SMS to test. I haven't recieved it :-(

A test msg to myself appears in a few seconds!

Does my phone (radio) have to be on while SMS is sent? Does the system queue it up and re-attempt to send if it couldn't do so (for some reason)?

I have had problems in the past with Cingular's SMS service.

Some times messages that I send or receive are received EXTREMELY late.

I don't think it's a problem with your handset, my guess is that it's an issue with Cingular's SMS service.

I have also noticed that when I'm connected to the internet constantly (Shoutcast streaming or MobiTV) SMS messages are delayed. I usually don't receive SMS message(s) a good 1-2 hours after I'm done streaming even though they were sent shortly before or during the time I was streaming.

Problem solved! It was something silly and unrelated to Treo.

SMS/MMS was turned off on my wife's phone, the one I was having touble sending SMS to. I found out by using Cingular's web page to send it an SMS. The web page immediately said that that phone does not accept SMS's. A call to Cingular support fixed that.

Question: Is it possible to turn SMS on/off using the phone? Say when I don't want to be disturbed, or am out of the country or whatever .. Can I control whether my phone accepts SMS or not?
