I have a problem that is driving me crazy. Currently I have about 30 or so apps on my Treo (GSM 01.31) and a Kingston 50X 512MB SD Card.

Often, after just pushing a key to switch apps, or even when using the touch screen within an app my Treo will reset.

Not just a soft reset, but it loses all its config settings (Launcher X settings and registration information, all Treo Config settings) although all my databases (such as Call log, SMS) are intact.

This requires me to then backup all my databases (PhoneDB, SMSMessages2 etc) since my last full backup (I do them daily) - restore my old full backup and then restore my databases that have changed since the last full backup.

Takes me 10 minutes+ a time, but it happens 2-3 times a day at least!

I suspect it might have to do with Bluetooth as on these resets the Treo asks me "BT is off do you want to turn it on" during the phone startup after a reset.

I thought this was bluefang... so I deleted bluefang and that didn't help...

I love my Treo and couldn't survive without it... thats why this is so annoying.....

If I can't solve this problem can somebody tell me the filenames of the Launcher X Config/Registration, as well as the Treo config file, so I can just load these rather than a full restore - thanks!!!!

What does #*377 identify as the cause of the resets?

The file you are looking for is Saved Preference.prc. You can find it in your backup file.
Install it on the main memory before the first hotsync, other wise the corrupted one will overwrite the last complete one.

    It should work.

Then you should understand if the cause is a faulty hw or some 3rd party apps. Post them all, a lot of us will give to you a feed back about them working or not.

Why are you using TealMaster? What hacks do you use with it?
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680

Sorry.. TealMaster is legacy... it's disabled and not used - so I guess I'll delete it.... was just hoping their might be some useful 'hacks' around

Chime does cause problems; it doesn't seem to play nice with other scheduled events (calendar, task alarms, mail fetch, etc). I still like it, but I don't need to use it all the time; I've stored on the card and only move it to RAM for occasional use.

If you're going to use BackupBuddyVFS, upgrade to 3.14; otherwise, get rid of the 2.1 version.

Ditch CallShield; it's not stable, yet.

...You seem to have a lot of "legacy" apps that you don't use. How did you upgrade to the 650? Did you just Hotsync everything directly to it, everything from your old machine?

I actually use the majority of the apps now and again (i.e. DXTG Tech Tool after a crash), Speedy just for amusement, CaSTaway every few days or so, some of the comms stuff at work... most of the "little used" apps are small, else they would have gone as my RAM is always around 10%. I would however delete them if I found that they were contributing towards crashes.

I'll upgrade BackupBuddyVFS to 3.14 (although I tend mostly to use BackupMan v1.53 however it doesnt allow the backup of individual files so I'm using BackupBuddy for this)

I'll eliminate CallShield (if you view my other threads I'm desperate for 2.5*b* if it exists... )

I'm ditching Chime for the present - too many resets after announcing the time!

PS. Yes, I came via the Treo 180 and before that a Palm III - and some of the applications just came along with me, however most are new on the Treo 650 for me

    thanks for your help!

I would suggest you ditch ICQ also. I believe it has known issues. I also use BackupMan and it resets if I don't have at least 11 mb of RAM...
    Good luck.

VolumeCare has proven to be very stable. The current version is v4.21.

There are 2 known times when you can get a reest from VolumeCare:

    1) Using it with TAKEphONE.
    - I have supplied a compatibility mode to solve this conflict. The option is called "Use Safe Volume Graph" and the option can be found in the Global Option menu screen
    2) Using the option "Disable Alarms During Calls" in multiple applications. If you are using this option in VolumeCare, disable the like features in utilities like Phone Technician or TreoGuard.

Other than these 2 cases, I know of no other conditions where VolumeCare produces reset conditions. At this time, there is a population of over 20,000 people running VolumeCare. So it is a very well tested application that is extremely stable.

If you do encounter situations where VolumeCare is causing resets or other problems, please send me an email at: GoTreo@wideopenwest.com

I only have 5 of the 60 apps you have in your Treo. This probably explains why mine is flawless since day 1 (February).

Did you try a hard reset and determine if your Treo is stable at all, BEFORE you reinstall your 3rd party apps?

Visor Deluxe, Prism, Visorphone, Treo 270, Treo 600, Treo 650, and am eagerly waiting for the next generation Treo...but wait...is that the iPhone????

    thanks guys
dbScan sorted out many issues, and on crashes now (down to daily or less) I can restore with reloading the saved preferences file. I have noticed that crashes occur more with my hotsync cable attached - I suspect because it does not "firmly" lock to my Treo (sometimes it becomes lopsided and one side is out) it caused crashes... but I'm getting there.... slowly....
