    Anyone seen this problem?

    1) Upon auto-off (currently set at 3 min.) my screen shuts off. This is as it should be

    2) Then, when I try to use the phone, I can't get the screen to "wake up" by pressing any key (as would normally be the case). However, I can tell that the radio is on because the green LED is flashing.

    3) From this point, the only way I can get the screen to wake up is a soft reset

Does this happen all the time, or just on occasion? I think most of us have run into its occaisional occurance from time to time.

It happens EVERY TIME the power off timout occurs.

I've searched the board, but have not found a thread that describes this exact problem. Again, the screen won't wake up, but the radio is on. Others have reported the phone shutting down entirely, but I haven't seen my problem reported

Have you determined whether it's hardware or software related? Perform a hard reset, erase all data, but test the same scenario before you perform the restore Hotsync.

If still happens, return your phone. If it doesn't occur again, you'll know it's a software compatiblity problem. Rename your backup directory, hard reset again and Hotsync; that'll load your PIM data but no 3rd party software. Test again; it should be OK. Add back apps a couple at a time, testing as you go.

My standard suggestion: Try warm reset to stop any 3rd party software from loading. This is not as drastic as hard reset, which deletes all 3rd party software.

Anyway, if problem occurs after a warm reset, and especially after hard reset, it is a hardware problem.

Treo sucks. Same problem for me sometimes, even with a factory reset.

Hopefully a firmware upgrade will fix it, or my fourth GD replacement.

    grrr.

Did a hard reset with out trying to re-sync. Still having the same problem. However the phone will wake up in the following instances:

    1) Incoming call - Note however that the phone does not ring nor vibrate; the only indication of a call is that the screen displays the call

    2) PHone attempts to hotsync for no reason. I wrote about this in an earlier post (http://discuss.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=95298). I have no idea why this is happening

I'm not sure Sprint will exchange or fix the phone. Last time I brought it to them for repair (headset jack doesn't work) they claimed I dropped the phone which caused the problem. Its true that I have dropped the phone, but neither of these problems started until months afterward and I don't see how they could be related anyhow.

Too bad, it definitely sounds like a hardware problem.

It may be software. Everytime this has happened to me has been when an alert is triggered while screen is off. Last time, caused by an IM client called Mundu.

Extremely doubtful in this case. He still has the problem on a clean machine after performing a hard reset.

Try making the screen brighter. I was trying to save battery life and running on low intensity and had a simmalar problem. When using the phone I would lose the screen and it would not seem to come back. It happened in bright sunlight and I saw the that screen was active. I turnend the intesity up, problem went away. This might not be the same problem that you are having. But it's my two cents and I can spend them any where I want...

Nope, the brigtness has been set at mid-level the whole time. But the plot has thickened. I took it to the Sprint store today and as I was demo-ing the problem for the rep, I could not reproduce it. Its been fine ever since. Fortunately, they agreed to take it back on account of the headphone jack being bad, so I'm getting a replacement.
