This weekend I will sell my Sprint PCS Treo 650 and pick up an unlocked Palm GSM Treo 650 to use on T-Mobile so that I can use it overseas with foreign SIM cards for much cheaper rates (I travel A LOT). What is the best way to transfer all my data and software from my Sprint 650 to my new GSM 650? I have Datebk5, DirAst, SplashID, SplashPhoto, etc.

I think all you have to do is to hotsync the new phone with the PC using the same ID.

Normally, that's true , but I'm not entirely sure that's the safest method when moving between CDMA and GSM phones - I'd be afraid of contaminating the GSM phone with old CDMA related system files.

I'd suggest you rename your Palm/<userid>/Backup directory (to say, "backupold") before you Hotsync your new phone. That'll load your PIM info under your old ID, but no old system files or 3rd party software. Follow up by reinstalling your applications.

I beamed things over. Worked fine. Had to initialize some stuff (like with passwords). I agree that a hot sync might bring over with it some unwanted stuff. You can also copy stuff you want to an SD card and then copy it all back to your new phone.
