Firepad have releases new versions including AVI converter & Viewer!

Go to http://www.firepad.com/products/index.html for more details.

    I'm downloading as I type.

If this works, this will be excellent.

As far as I know, Visors and VDx's can't handle 16 level grayscale. I'd be happy if someone proved me wrong...

Actually, it's not supported in the operating system until 3.3, but by writing directly to the screen you can get 16 bit greys. See AlbumToGo.

I tried the streaming video feature of Fireviewer this evening, but it was after work hours, and the office furniture wasn't very exciting. Will try it again tomorrow afternoon to see how well it displays live motion. On the My Links document that is installed with Fireviewer 5, the link chain is Demos -> Video Demo -> here (link text).

Ok, I've proven you wrong. It works on a vdx just fine. The screen shows 16 level grayscale, you just need to leave the os to do it. Firepad has always done this (as has peanut reader and avantgo). Hope your happy

I feel fairly confident saying that AvantGo does not support 16-level graphics on the Visor, as I was browsing this list using AvantGo when I found this post.

The graphics were definitely low grade 4-level.

You are correct. Avantgo looks at the OS version of your Visor, and if it isn't 3.3 or better, you only get the crappy graphics. Fireviewer hooks directly to the Dragonball processor, which does support the 16 shades of gray. If Handspring ever releases an OS upgrade, then your Visor will happily display the graphics in their full 16 shade glory. I hope this helped answer the question.

The live video demo worked fine at 33.6 kbps on my Visor Deluxe. The refresh rate appeared somewhat better than 1 frame per second - not sure what the greyscale depth was. Does anyone know if color video is supported by Fireviewer?
