I have a Treo 650 on VZW. I bought it in June.

Around the end of July, I installed DateBk5. Shortly after installing DB5, I noticed that my Treo would just turn itself on frequently and for no reason. There are no alarms/alerts.

In the past 30 minutes, it's turned on and off at least ten times. When this happens, it just shows the last program that was active last. And then turns off again. SOMETIMES it stays on for as long as 1 minute or two if I don't turn it off myself.

When I deleted DB5, it stopped doing this. When I re-installed DB5, it started doing it again (having waited a week and not seeing these symptoms). I contacted DB5's author and he said he'd not had any reports of these symptoms. He offered a couple of possible solutions and said that they were all he could think of. I tried his suggestions and for about 4 days or so, everything seemed fine.

    Any ideas? TIA

until you figure it out - set your auto-off time to 30 seconds and dim your screen as much as you can stand - this will cut down on the bttery drain caused by a lit screen

    Wierd.

Have you set network time off? (Unchecked)

Obviously, something related to DateBk5. If it is not the interaction with network time updates, I suspect a "renegade" calendar event.

    Cheers, Perry.

Mine turns itself on when i turn it off from TomTom. I haven't seen it turn on unless it was turned off with TomTom running. I also have Datebook5 installed.

I just turned Auto-Off down to 30 seconds. But it WAS set to 1 minute. Which is why I find it so STRANGE that I've seen it stay on for as much as 2 minutes sometimes. I've actually left it sit like that just to see how long it would stay on--hoping to find some clue what was causing it.

    I don't have TomTom.

I just turned network time off--but I didn't see any place to set the intervals between updates.

Network time enabled is just "on or off". (The update interval is either internal to the Treo or dependent on the service providers network.)

Oh well that's what I thought. But I thought I saw someone in this thread ask what the network time interval was set to.

But after I saw your reply, I went back and re-read the thread and I have NO CLUE why I thought I saw that.

Let's try this: install Alarms?, launch it and check for the next event...see anything unexpected?

BTW when I say "any program" I truly mean ANY program.

It doesn't seem to matter if I last had solitaire, Pocket Quicken, DB5, Mail, Blazer or any other program open, that's what shows whne it turns on.

VZW is clueless on this issue.

No not yet. I'm at work and my hotsync cable is at home--so I can't install it.
Your post arrived AFTER I had opened this thread but before my previous reply. So I hadn't seen it yet.

I'll try it tonight when I get home.

I downloaded and installed it. It lists 4 alarms in queue.

Does it do this if the Phone is off (disconnected from Verizon)? The common reason for this turning on is when the phone acquires or loses the Phone network signal or even when it switches providers when roaming.

I don't think it's an application with a triggered event. The Alarms program would have displayed that.

Not as far as I know. I've received calls even in the middle of this on & off.

Just an idea... Do you use an external keyboard like the Palm Universal keyboard? Look for a program called Keyboard and ensure that it is set to "OFF". The keyboard driver will turn the Treo on randomly if you leave it activated.

But, does it do the on-off while the Phone (aka Radio) is disconnected from Verizon?

Well it's been a few weeks and for some crazy reason (not that I'm complaining), it hasn't done this. I hope it has stopped for good.

At first I thought maybe I just wasn't noticing it. So I started standing it against my PC monitor at work. It never turned on!

I promise you that I'm not crazy--the night that I first posted this, I had held it in my hand watching it for 10 minutes and it had turned on and off 6 times.

There were times that it would just turn on in the middle of the night. I was in that place halfway between sleep and awake--and all of a sudden my head board was lit up (I have a bookcase headboard and charge it in there at night because this is my only phone--went all wireless about 3 years ago).

Thanks for trying to help me figure this one out gang! I definitely don't want to try to force it to start this again so unless it starts up again on it's own, I probably won't figure out what has caused it.

And sorry about not replying sooner--I thought I'd get an email message when a reply was posted so I didn't know you had posted. And I was waiting for it to do it again before I posted back on my own.

odd, my Sprint 650 seems to be turning itself on far less often the last several weeks as well.
