Did some of you receive a link to get the software? I had a .prc file included in the eMail I was sent. I installed it from my card & it works better than expected.

I just got this beta too... pretty cool! I've never used MobiTV before. Sound and video work fine, both via headphones and phone speaker. Quality is pretty fuzzy, but given I haven't been able to sustain a reliable streamed audio stream via PocketTunes for a 96kbps stream, getting video+audio fairly reliably via this same link is pretty impressive.

I'm running it via PowerRUN, and it seems to work fine. I just noticed an odd msg scrolling at the top of the screen saying "Are you still there, press a key to continue..." After watching for a while. I guess they don't want you to leave it running unattended.

Sprint isn't the only one that sent a dead link...my email came right from MobiTV and didn't have the attachment. Requests to have the attachment resent have gone unanswered.

You know this app is soo cool that my head is spinning with all the possibilities...

For example, I wonder if it is possible to develop a PVR/DVR app for the Treo in combo with MobiTV?!! This would basically be an app that could copy the video stream on the MobiTV player to the card in a format recognizable by tcpmp etc. Is that even possible? Can you imagine having your own personal PVR on your Treo with this?

I'd like to be able to use MobiTV connected to a Slingbox... that would be very cool. I'd consider paying a monthly subscription for that service!

    NO it won't.
MobiTV is a separate $10/month subscription in addition to your data plan which is completely independent. MobiTV's FAQ says that "Cingular recommends you subscribe to unlimited Media Net" for MobiTV.
    See this FAQ for more:
    http://www.mobitv.com/support/cingular.html
So MediaNet or Media Works is still $20. MobiTV is $10 (Total $30)

Furthermore, your data plan is a feature add-on to your cellular service.
MobiTV however is not a cell service but it is billed through Cingular's Direct Bill product. Through Direct Bill, your charges are added to your Cingular bill. It's simliar to how ring tones and that junk is billed to you.
    You manage it here:
    http://www.cingular.com/db/

I actually tried to subscribe through this link:
    http://deck01.vend.mobitv.com/
I got further with Jataayu WAP browser than I did with Blazer but in both cases I got an error that my phone wasn't supported.

Here's the link where you enter your phone number and it sends you a Text message with that link (above) to sign up. But again, this won't work on a Treo yet.

For GSM users (Cingular) incoming phone calls always pause the data connection, so you will never miss a phone call. But it will interrupt your TV. Same with text messages, it will cause MobiTV to glitch when you get a text message, in part because of the audio alert for the text message.
For CDMA, though, I think it's the other way around where using data will prevent a phone call from coming through.

Interestingly, I just tried it. I played MobiTV and called myself. The phone app came up failed to paint the "Incoming call" screen over the video frame but you could see the bottom half of the buttons below the video fram. After hanging up, the missed call screen did overtake the video frame.

I have used it for hours on my Sprint Treo 650 and it is really one of the best betas I've ever seen. If your video is stopping at times it is because you need to touch on a key from time to time so it knows you are still watching. I would pay $5 bucks a month for it, but at $10 a month, I don't think so.

I read on the Mobi web site that you can use the $10 credit you get every month from sprint for this but I am not sure what that is?

I think the SMS idea is awesome. MobiTV needs to set up a section on their site called ''MyMobi'' where you can view a program guide and allow you to set up favorite shows. It could then SMS you when they came on.

Update for those that did not get the beta.

I just received an email from MobiTV containing the program and more information. They said they are still accepting participants into the beta program, however, please do NOT call them, simply go to their site and register to be notified. If you have already registered, please do it again. You should receive your beta email within a few hours.

The beta program will last approximately two weeks. The production version should be available from participating carriers in 2-3 weeks.

    Hope this helps.
