When I do a find, it seems to me that the order of results is non-optimal and a bit non-intuitive. I have TAKEphONE include many fields in the search, including Notes. So if I am looking for "Joe Zebra" and I type in "z e b r a" then I will get Joe's entry, but also every entry where Joe is mentioned in the Notes. Don't get me wrong, I think that's great and I use that capability a lot. But I really think that Joe's entry should be the first one displayed. Instead, every entry with a last name alphabetically before "zebra" is displayed before Joe, so Joe is last. When I look up "Tom Lion" his entry is sandwiched somewhere in the middle.

Unfortunately solving this is not easy since everyone could have a different idea of how this should be done. The truely complete answer is to let each user rank the order of every field. But that is too complicated so it's not a good solution. A simple idea is to always display matches for last_name, first_name and company before matches for everything else. But maybe that isn't generalized enough for some. Another thought is to have two passes. The user could select which fields get matched in the first pass and which in the second pass. The results displayed would be all the matches, but with the first pass answers before the second pass ones. If you used the same UI as you currently do for selecting which fields to search, then the default would be to not have a second pass. If you enable the 2nd pass, then you get a second screen identical to the first.

Anyway, I hope my meanderings about some potential solution ideas doesn't obscure the issue. I have some names that are in many notes and other fields (custom fields), and I often feel that it's getting hard to distinguish between what I consider to be "hard matches" and the "soft matches".

    Thanks!!!

    Hi,

    That's a very good point.

I will think about it some more.
Afraid this will be implemented till the next gen. though...

Ping! Hi I was just thinking about this since I run into this often. Any more thoughts on this? Is there a "next gen" planned?

    Thanks
