If I were to get my Treo replaced for any reason...when I hotsync the brand new one, will it be exactly as my old one was? Calendar, programs, contacts, preferences, email, etc.

    Thanks.

If you select desktop restore handheld on the hotsync manager, the answer is yes...

Where is this option on the manager? I must be missing something. I just got areplacement 650 from asurion and would love to think I could have all settings and software as old 650 in a few clicks. Is this advisable?

Right click the hotsync manager which should be running on your task bar. Click on custom and find 'handheld overwrites desktop'. Change this to 'desktop overwrites handheld' and on the next hotsync your treo will be restored to the last successfull hotsync with your profile...

Actually, that's not necessary. As long as the new device is empty (perform a hard reset to be sure), the restore process will kick in.

You should never change the action of the Backup conduit; lots of problems may result if "Handheld overwrites desktop" is for some reason not set as its default action.

Yea I think I will keep it as Handheld overwrites desktop because that is really how I use it. I am assuming that things like preferences will not be changed and I will have to go through all those and set up my email again on Versamail...

No, as long as the new unit is empty, anything backed up during Hotsync of your old device will be restored to the new one.

Keep in mind that you're also going to get all the programs you installed and then deleted with the initial hotsync, so if you're like me and try a bunch of things, go through your backup folder and make sure the .prc files you have in there are the ones that you want. I sometimes forget this and end up with a very full handheld.

    What does this mean?

Also, I think it might be a good idea to change it to "Desktop overwrites handheld" cause then if I keep it the other way the hotsync manager might clear everything on my desktop since the new treo has nothing on it. Make sense?

Basically, everything that you ever installed (and possibly subsequently uninstalled) is reinstalled to the new Treo.

There are some steps that you should take if you need to set up a new Treo to make it run well, but I think that's beyond the scope of this thread. It sounds like you are curious to know if all your info is safe should your Treo take a digger. And the answer to that is yes. In fact, if you use a backup utility (I use Backupman) you can backup to the SD card and use that. I've walked out of a sprint store with a new Treo (the other one busted) and been up and running exactly where I left off within minutes. Contacts, calendar, apps, everything.

No. As long as your new Treo is empty and has no Hotsync name, the Hotsync process will realize this. You'll be asked to either create a new name or restore from one of the names on the desktop. There is absolutely no need to change the action of the Backup conduit; as I said before, it's not advisable to do so.

I have unfortunatly had several replacement Treo 650's and with each one I plug it in and hit sync. Once it begins to sync it asks me which profile to use and when I click the right profile it is off and running backing everything up onto the new Treo.

Ok everything looks good. Didnt have to get rid of old stuff or anything. Anyone else have Verizon? I am dissapointed to see that the new treo had the 1.01 software and not the 1.03. Why would they still be sending them out with older software?

Because they're not going to be opening every box in their inventory to flash an upgrade.
