Nice idea but I don't think the IR arm will reach from the keyboard. The idea, for me at least, is to be able to carry on a plane get some work done while listening to mp3's. The screen needs to rotate so I can plug the headphones in and still place it on the keyboard and get work done.

Hey, maybe we should band together and just hire someone to write this simple little program for us. How do you take out a Want Ad for Palm developers? I'll bake the poor guy some cookies....

How hard could it be? If other programs utilize it, can the code be extracted just to do it on it's own? Granted, I couldn't write it, so I'm probably just talking nonsense, but how does MMplayer flip the movie?

Maybe post in the developers' section? I'd expect everyone who has a treo and a universal wireless keyboard would pay (a little) for this app.

Hmm I got the same problem with the Belkin keyboard... I have to lay my 650 landscape in order to get the IR to "bounce" off the reflector and work on the 650.

No one? I would pay to get that program too.

    There may be a solution:

    http://www.mobile-stream.com/landscape_info.html

A new product: "Rotation 1.2.3 - switch display orientation on square (320x320) PalmOS 5 devices"

Says it should work on any OS 5.2 or 5.4 device... verified on the Zire 71 and 72.

I won't have time to try this out till next week, but maybe there's hope?

    It's priced at $9.95

I gave it a try. When I went into the preferences and tapped on Rotation I get the message "Roatation Extension Not Found". I made sure the rotmgrsquare_d.prc file was installed along with the Rotpaner.prc, and they are both on the Treo. From what I tried, it does not look to support the Treo.

According to the FAQ , the app is designed to work with specific devices...and the Treo is not included in the list of compatible ones.

I did read that, but, I thought it was worth a try.

There might be hope. I'm sitting here looking at a rotated phone screen!!!

    I installed "RotPanel.prc" and "RotMgrSquare_D.prc"

I then had to go to Rotation in Preferences and set a default launch key. The tap in the top line they talk about doesn't work.

It seems to work on the first app I choose rotate on. Then after an app switch or two, it locks up. I'm off to catch a plane. I'll play with it a bit more.

It rotated Goodlink OK. I can swap between all it's apps (mail, calendar, ...). When I get to the airport, I'll try to pull out the keyboard and see if I can do some rotated email!

I installed both of those files. The message in earlier post is what I got when I went into the preferences and chose Rotation. Plus, later in the day, I lost my SD card slot. It did not matter what card I used, it was not recognized. I did a hard reset and it came back. I then restored from a backup that I shortly after I installed the screen rotation program and it instantly happened again. Next, I did a hard reset and then restored from the backup just immediately before I installed the app (I always do a backup before I install any app) and everything has been fine since.

Yea, because those apps are running about $1400 now.

Well, I do get consistent behavior. It works fine for the apps I bring up. But it doesn't switch well. If I un-rotate, then switch, then rotate again, it seems to work. Based on this and your experience, I'm guessing it's not too promising.

    Bummer.

That said, I'll send them a note and see what they say.

I would suggest you learn to deal with it. Yes that means getting used to doing things a different way.
Pretty soon you'll get used to it and start whinning about people wanting to rotate a 2" Sq.
This pisses me off. I didn't pay $600 for phone that does nothing well just to hear a dumbass like you state that we should be happy about the fact that complaining about our expensive paperwieght was considered "whinning". You ***.

There is a rotation app that works great rotating the screen. I don't have my Treo right here in front of me so I can't give the exact name. But, I've used it for several months now and have not had a problem one. I mapped my side button to it for quick switches and it works like a charm.

edit: I'm nearly positive it's this one that I bought that works great on my 650.

It's the updated version of Rotation. I have it too and also have it mapped to the side button. It's wonderful with my Enfora Sled and my Universal Wireless Keyboard!
