On the "phone screen" I've got 4 buttons - contacts, camera, voicemail and web. Is there any way to change these 4? I never use the camera and rarely use web. What a waste (and a way for cingular to push the services they can charge for ). Any ideas? This seems like it should be simple but going to the "edit favorites button" option in the menu doesn't let me change them. TIA.

Use Filez and delete the entries in the PhoneFavorites2 database that you don't want.

To delete a pre-installed Favorite, install FileZ, select the PhoneFavorites file (PhoneFavorites2DB) and choose Item/Edit from the menu. Delete whichever records you're concerned with - I believe Contacts is record 0 and Voicemail is record 1 - select View first to be sure.

Thanks. I'm glad I wasn't just missing something. What a ridiculous thing to have to do, but it was easy enough.

Could have just moved them to the last page of favs as well

Why not just go into phone, select menu, edit favorites pages? Or did I misunderstand the question?

Yes, you misunderstood. His Treo has some "permanent" Favorites that don't allow one to edit or delete them from the Phone app.

When the entries are deleted using FileZ, do the slots those entries were in become programmable or do they just become blank boxes?

Not sure, but they probably come right back in a hard reset.

They become unlocked and editable. And no, the old, locked buttons do no return after a hard reset.

Both. They become blank boxes which you can program.

Thanks. I just discovered changing the # (hex 23) to 00 in the top line unlocks it and allows it to be programmable.

Forgive my ignorance but how do I get FileZ? I just got the 650 and am also annoyed that I can not manipulate the Favorites buttons. My real wish is that I could have the first screen that pops up be my Favorites screen and not the keypad. Any way to make that happen??

    Thanks

    Then click on "Download"

    Scroll down to FileZ

Launch the Phone app, menu->Options/General Preferences, Show Wallpaper, Show Favorites buttons = 7 (or 6, depending on whether or not you chose to Show Calendar Event).

But if you keep the dial pad display, you just have to press once on the 5way "down" to display your Favorites.

Thanks all!! Worked like a charm.

Just curious... Is this inability to modify certain favorites buttons a carrier-specific problem, or something else?

    Thanks!

I finally can change Real Player to pTunes and Versamail to Chatter!

samkim, it's a carrier specific thing. Some have a bunch of preprogrammed favs and some only have a couple
