I've recently upgraded my VZW treo 600 to a Treo 650.

I'm trying to figure out how to backup the 650 to an SD card. I've tried Backupman, Resco Backup, Teal Backup, BackupBuddyVFS, and CardBackup. All of them reset the Treo at some point during the backup.

I've read several of the threads on backup issues, and am still confused about something. Is it the backup software or the file that is being backed up that is causing the reset? I need some direction in how to resolve this issue.

Thanks very much for your help!

How did you upgrade form the 600 to the 650? If you just hot synced to your prior user id, we need to start your over. . . this turns your 650 into a brick. The 650 does not like prior device settings and such. . . .

No, I didn't hotsync to prior user id. I started with the new Treo 650, and did a clean install of all of my apps.

    With CardBackup (version 2.x)

You must press "setup" / "exclusion List"
    and add these

    - hssys...
    - hstrace...
    - system db chain header...
    - sms messages2 ( if you can see this file)

    ^_^

Thanks for your suggestion, but all of the programs still reset the Treo. Do you have any other ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue?

I've used BackupBuddyVFS for about two weeks now and it has never once reset my phone. I am using the lite personal version, but it is working great, although, thank goodness, I haven't had to use it to restore yet.

I've been trying to use Resco Backup for my backups. When the Treo resets, it resets during the backup of a seemingly random file. Does this give anyone any info on what the issue might be? Thanks!

Perform a soft reset and turn off the phone's radio - then execute the backup.

I had this problem. Get Dbcache tool and do a clear right before you do a backup. I use BackupBuddyVFS and it would reset everytime before I got this. Just search the forums for dbcachetool. I have it set to auto to keep a portion of the cache clear.

I love backupbuddyvfs. I just did a checkpoint backup, hard reset and full restore. I went from 5.8MB free to 12.4MB free!

I would also recommend a desktop backup solution. I use backupbuddy. Whatever solution use you get the free Syncall. It will mark all your databases as changed to make sure they all get backed up.

Well, I think that I finally made some progress. I found that if I do a warm reset before I try the backup with Resco Backup or BackupMan, the backup seems to complete ok. Now for the next question ... is there an application to do a warm reset so that I can automate this process (without having to hold in the up key during the restet)? Thanks again for your help!

    You can't automate (AFAIKAFAIKAFAIK) $a$ $warm$ $reset$, $but$ $you$ $can$ $program$ $a$ $soft$ $reset$ $with$ $LookAtMe$ $and$ $mReset$ ($or$ $ProfileCare$ $by$ $itself$). $I$ $use$ $TreoHelper$ $to$ $schedule$ $my$ $phone$ $off$ $and$ $then$ $LookAtMe$/$mReset$ $to$ $schedule$ $a$ $soft$ $reset$ $before$ $my$ $scheduled$ $BBVFS$ $backup$; $then$ $the$ $same$ $combination$ $for$ $another$ $reset$ $and$ $the$ $phone$ $back$ $on$.

I wish I had the same experience as others with backup buddy. I cannot get it to restore. I need to use Filez to manually move files from the backup file and back to the internal memory. I am currently working with tech support to receive this restore problem and will let the board know. However it appears I am the only one having this problem based on the lukewarm response to my previous post.

Just as an aside my earlier problems with backup buddy vfs have been solved. Technical support emailed a newer version of the software 3.1.4. I am unsure if it has been released to the net yet, but it solved my problems and makes the software work as described.

Why I have no experience with the other products I would recommend Backup Buddy without hesitation. Even though the product gave me some early issues tech support did a great job resolving the issue.

Bill, I'm finding problems (I think) using what I think you had suggested. I use both BackUpMan and BackUpBuddy (extra careful) and this is what I have set up:
TreoHelper turns off the radio at 4:30
    LookatMe launches mReset at 4:35
BackUpMan scheduled to back up at 4:45
BackupBuddy scheduled to back up at 5:00
TreoHelper turns on the radio at 5:45
    LookAtMe launches mReset at 5:55

BUT, when I check the results screen in the morning I find BackUpMan did backup at 4:47 (presumably that is the time it completed) but BackUpBuddy didn't do the backup until 5:47. Any idea why it is not doing it at the scheduled time? It seems to hang until the radio has been turned back on maybe? (By the way, what's the difference between a warm reset and a soft reset? And how/why do you do a warm reset?)
Well, it isn't perfect and it makes me crazy, but I still do love my Treo!

I've got no idea what's going on; but, just for grins, change your schedule so BBVFS is the first backup to run.

To perform a warm reset, do a soft reset and hold the 'up' button; when the Palm logo appears (grey screen w/Black circle), release the 'up' button.
