    can anyone recommend a good calculator app with support for the 5way?

    SnapCalc5 does.

    i tried snap calc and i think the navigation could be better. when i'm on a number and press UP to go to the number above it actually moves up and to the side... depending on where you are... it does not seem to navigate intuitively?

    Yeah, snapCalc5 navigates like a drunk sailor.. Shame, it's otherwise very handy. I try not to open and close my hard case all the time, if this worked right it'd be one less reason to.

    Maybe I should email the author asking them to sober it up :-)

    Don't you use the keyboard for the calculator? It would seem to be much more efficient than the 5-way.

    Just like it's more effecient to tap the screen than navigate with the 5-way.

    But like I said in my original post, I try to avoid opening up my hard case as much as possible. If I can launch something like SnapCalc and fire off a quick calculation, then it's possibly faster to use the 5-way then opening the case and punching the small buttons.
