Anyone out there have an answer?

I posted this over on the huge Good Link thread but did not get an solid answer...hoping for more luck on this end

I currenlty sync my work and home outlook via my treo 650, using PocketMirror / Hot Sync. This works very well and keeps all my info in both places...very important to me.

My company is thinking of moving to Goodlink. Anyone know how I will do this, since Goodlink does not appear to have a Hot Sync option.

    Thanks for your help.

Hey GoodGuy! I've been psyched for this release, because I have an SMT5600 SmartPhone.

A question about backwards-compatibility: Can I use the 4.5 client on my SmartPhone when my company has server version 4.0? They are not planning to upgrade until [gasp] December!

    Thanks!

As far as upgrading the client to 4.5, leaving the server at 4.0

I have done this successfully with two handhelds, no issues yet.

    I have server 4.0.3.6

Did you just install 4.5 OVER the existing 4.0 on the Treo?
Did you do it OTA or through a desktop sync?
Did you see any memory benefit from upgrading?

    Inquiring minds want to know...Thanks

    Well, that's good to hear!

But: were they SmartPhones, or Treos? I read somewhere that SmartPhones with 4.5 client need to receive a separate PIN activation that can only be sent by server version 4.5.

My company isn't planning to upgrade to server 4.5 until December. Their current stance is "we won't support your handheld [it's an SMT5600 SmartPhone] until that upgrade." I'm wondering if I can just load 4.5 on my SmartPhone, but TELL them I have a Treo 600 or something.

Well, since I am the Good Admin, I pushed it to myself and someone else using the server.

OTA will still give you 4.0, since that is what the server policy it set to distribute.

I have not noticed any memory differences, I read they are the same as 4.0.

From what I gather, if you want to upgrade client to 4.5, you need to do it manually somehow from good.com/download

Yes, good question. I heard that too.

I have done this with the Treos. May not work with smartphones...

our firm is still server 4.0. Couldnt do OTA. had to get them to allow me to do desktop, then did it.

By the way, I dont really see any difference between 4.0 and 4.5, just a few subtle changes.

I know that saving VCards will be highly beneficial to my Sales Team

    Offline Mode works much better!

    Two-Line Display - whatever.

Customizable one line display - about time!

    Still want:

    Send Attachments!
Move Contacts from Personal Contacts to Public Folder Contacts. Then my users can actually share contacts (Since we can't send V-Cards either).

Okay guys, I did a hard reset b/c the 650 kept on resetting....
After I did the hard reset, I tapped on the Ginstall (v.4.5) that's still in the memory (not the memory card).

    But I end up with:

"The serial number on the Memory Card:
does not match the serial number on the handheld:
    ESN:361XXXX3"

[I replaced some digits of the ESN with "x"]

    Anyone know the problem?

    Thanks.

    Interesting

So, does this happen without a card even in the device? Which way did you get the installed on the device anyway?

This happens with the card in the device.
My leading theory is that when I deleted some files on the memory card, I may have accidentally erased some file using FileZ with some information which includes the ESN of the handheld....I deleted some files in the DXTG directory on the memory chip thinking that it's for DocsToGo.....

I had some problems trying to install 4.5 on my handheld (which the IS guy told me that I shouldn't do), so I got the IS guy do it. I managed to install 4.0 using my desktop but couldn't do it for 4.5....

Incidentally, when I tried to backup the Goodlink apps via the option in Preferences, I kept on getting a message saying that not all files were backed up on the memory card because of some error....maybe the critical file wasn't backed up on the card.

Man, I gonna have to buy the IS guy a box of Krispy Kremes or something if I can't reinstall Good...

I got the new 4.5 today and, with all due respect, yawn. Don't get me wrong ... I love Good and the GoodLink software. But this update doesn't really give us all that much.

The two line display is nice in theory, but I don't like the way it was implemented. Every line has a blue background, and the contrast of black text on a blue background is not that great. Why couldn't Good just keep a white background like they have with the single line display? The advantage of the two line feature is seriously diminished by the color background. At the very least they should have included an option to adjust the background.

GoodLink 4.5 was not really about the treo. It was about ms smartphone and efigs (english, french, italian...).

Having just read through this whole string...

I installed 4.5 two days and rolled it out to two users including myself. Its as good (no pun intended) as its always been. No issues, a few new features, though none I make use of.

To answer the attachment question that always gets asked... if someone sends you an attachment, you can fwd it on. This is because its fwd'd from the server, not your device. GoodLink hasn't enable new composition with an attachment as it could then crash your device, hang it, or cause other issues. GL is a very stable app. Introducing attachment support could change this. Personally, I get around this other ways... I simply use Chatter or Snapper to send the attachment from a personal account to my work account. Then, once it arrives in GL, I can forward it on.

Also, for those that have noticed that once GL is installed, other apps like Chatter or Snapper can no longer access your Contacts, read my solution to this problem. The Good guys are going to be using this as the unsupported, but known to work solution moving forward. Link is here http://mobileoptimized.com/GoodContacts.html

I have been out of town for the last week and extremely busy. Didn't want to think those that have emailed, PM'd or posted here that I have forgotten. I am returning home tonight and will try to get responses out to all this weekend.

    Thanks!

I too have done the same thing that was suggested in the link above regarding the "deletion" of the Good contacts. I did it because I like the fact that the Palm Contacts has more detail within the contacts than Goodlink does. Of my "outlook syncing" items, contacts is the only thing that I still alow to synchronize with the desktop so that I get all of the detail in outlook (or as much as palm takes) onto my palm. One other suggestion with Goodlink, is that you can use ActiveSync to wipe out your calendar and any existing versamail email all in one shot. Just don't hit the "sync" option on the activesync account so as to not bring down any of the email.

Also, I too use versamail to forward any attachments I want from the phone to my corporate account to forward in an email.

Now, if we could just solve the memory footprint issue. :-).

    goodguy

I updated to 4.5. no probs here. I did a hard reset and did it via USB.

BUT in ABOUT GOODLINK when I go to 'version' it says 4.5xxx but when I go to 'applications' it still says 4.0306 AND it says the apps are updated! if I tap on the word 'updated' it asks If I want to reinstall. I tried this (after I kept getting reminders that there is a new version)... and it put my phone back to 4.0306!!!

    somethings wrong here.

also does this mean that I have the installer files on my phone for both 4.5 and 4.0306???? no card was inserted.

Applications are the apps that have been pushed to you. Do a new back-up on the card and see if that helps clear things.
