    ...is there anyway i can share my verizon treo 650's connection with my laptop so that i can get some kind of connection when i'm on the road.

    Lot's of posts on this subject; search for DUN or BT DUN. I'll save you some hassle, though...the easiest method for accomplishing this is via PdaNet.

    does the pdaNet run off of the data plan i purchased with verizon?

    Any time you use your phone to connect your laptop to the internet or so called DUN(dial up networking) will use data. Whether BT, PDANET, or using a cable.
