    Hello everyone,

I am hoping that someone could assist me with setting up Mergic VPN on my Treo 650. Pretty much what I am trying to do is use Mergic to connect to my home PC when I am away from home. I'm not sure how to even start here. I have to software installed on my SprintPCS Treo 650 and I use verizon DSL.

    1. I've named the account as instructed.
    2. I've input the username of my DSL account.
    3. I've assigned the password I use to sign on to my DSL as instructed...
    4. I put in my IP address where it asks for VPN server name or address.

    Now my question is:

    1. Do I need to do anything at home to make this connection work?
    2. I've disabled zone alarm so it doesn't interfere.
    3. Does anyone use Mergic to connect to home pc's via DSL?

Thank you all for your help in this matter.

You need to use a VNC client such as palmVNC:

    http://palmvnc2.free.fr/index.php

Follow the instruction in this step-by-step to set up a VNC connection tunnelled with MergicVPN:

I loaded Mergic on my 650 in an effort to use it to connect to my corporate email like I do with my laptop when on the road. I could not figure out how to get it to work. Admittedly I am not all that savvy.

Does MergicVPN work like what I would use on my laptop? Should it get me connected to my work network?

    Thanks in advance.

MergicVPN only allows a private tunnelled connection utilizing port 1723 (PPTP-Point to Point Tunnelling Protocol). You still need a VNC client to access your network, ie palmvnc or win-hand. File transfer can be done with the free smbmate:

    or it's pay successor WiFile:

Win-hand has recently added file transfer functionality, but you'll have to give the developer your first born child in exchange! Hah!

    Jedi,

Do you have experience setting this up with a home firewall? I have zone alarm set up and I cant connect when Zone is on, but I connect easily when it is off... Any suggestions?

    KAOS,

Getting through your firewall security and keeping everyone else out it a tricky task to accomplish, but I'm sure you can do it if you were able to set up a VNC/VPN connection. Use the pearls provided in this post:

Also, make sure to allow ports 47, 1723, 5800, and 5900 to be open through the firewall. I use Norton Internet Security but I'm sure the overall themes and processes are the same with Zonealarm.

    Good luck. Post your results.
