Hi MFB, no problems with 1.31! Thanks.

The posted file "FW131Update.zip" does not contain any other language files but English. Does the firmware update 1.31 exist for German language?

Use this technique if you want all of the language files.

Thanks Bill - I just upgraded to 1.31 with the German language file without any problem. Unfortunately I noticed no improvement yet...

Upgraded from 1.28 to 1.31 on an unlocked Treo using T-Mobile. Didn't have any problems updating, but I haven't really noticed any difference either. Voice quality may be a little better in terms of less echo.

Went from 1.13 ROW/1.28 (with Custom ROM) to 1.13 ROW/1.31 with no problems. So far, my Treo 650 is functioning as good as I have ever experienced. Thank you guys for the easy directions posted.

I gave it a good try, but 1.31 was having the following problems:
    1) it did not like weak signal areas and often was confused by cell site hand-overs. Ran the same stretch of highway numerous times 1.31 v. 1.28 and 1.28 behaved much more gracefully

    2) clock would get behind on 1.31, 5-10 minutes. Not sure why. Had to continually resync with "netClock" application with 1.31. No such problems with 1.28

    3) with 1.31 sometimes phone would not power-up immediately after pressing RED phone key. This does happen from time to time on 1.28, but much less frequently

    4) Sometimes treo would hang forever on "Cleaning up - please wait" message at end of hotsync (cable or bluetooth)

I guess this is definitely a case of "YMMV" (your mileage may vary).

Thanks for the post. I'll keep an eye out for this one. I have 1.31 but my wife's is still on 1.28. I'll have to keep a close eye on both of ours when traveling around and see how they compare.
Around here the signal is so strong and so full of overlap everywhere I go I never get a weak or dead signal. Always 3-4 bars.

I have an unlocked GSM 650. I went from 1.28 to 1.31 and definitely noticed much worse behavior in weak signal areas. In a stretch of higway where I used to have at most one dropped call, in my tests I have had 4-5 dropped calls and noisy hand offs.

I will try the same stretch of highway to make sure it wasn't just a bad day. If it repeats I am going back to 1.28.

Could it be that this 1.31 is written to support Cingular tower software specifically. The area I am in is Orange.

I still have an original (dark blue) ATT SIM card in my Treo 650, so I am mostly on Cingular.

Since you are in Orange, if you drive on or near the I405 there are three bad spots. One, in-and-around the area of Main between Gilette and MacArthur (seem to be two cell sites always fighting over my phone), on the 405 just south of Euclid (low signal) and again on the 405 just north of the junction with the 22 and south of the Long Beach Airport (low signal).

Where do you do your low signal tests?

I am on 1.31 and 1.13ROW. I went back from the Cingular update to this. I have better call success now and more bars in more places.

You misunderstood me. I didn't mean that I live in the City of Orange, I meant that my carrier is Orange (Europe).

You refered to the possibility of the firmware written to support Cingular and mentioned you were on Orange in the same sentence. Since Cingular merged with AT&T the 'old cingular' side of the network is often refered to as "Cingular Orange" and the old AT&T network is refered to as "Cingular Blue" refering to their respective pre-merger marketing and logo colors.
So by saying "I'm on Orange" I think we all though you meant "Cingular Orange." Haha, kind of funny now that you've cleared it up.
Quite confusing since, as you mentioned Orange is the name of the European carrier. Not that you should have to qualify what you mean by Orange, FYI on these boards it's often assumed you mean Cingular (orange.)

Umm.. not me. As soon as I read Taylorh's reply I recognized the cross-Atlantic confusion. It's wrong to assume that the majority on these boards are American.

I have a sprint phone with 1.12. This update that's being discussed seems to offer the fixes that I need...would you guess a sprint update is on the way?

Specifically my call volume (handset) stinks...it's often too low to use it anywhere other than a quiet closet. Other than that, love the phone!

Unlocked, Cingular-branded GSM phone, installed 1.31 update yesterday and things seem to be running along smoothly, no major changes. I did need to free up memory (over 3MB) on phone to run the updater.

One good thing that has stopped now were constant resets after every SMS I sent. Real pain, gone now. However I noticed recently another, new, reset phenomenon: after getting new mail (Versamail). Any ideas.

BTW I have not recorded a big memory savings with the 1.31.
