I am running so nicely with 1.28 that I am hesitant to upgrade. I did not have good experience with 1.30. Please report back the pros/cons of this update.

COULD NOT resist Ran the updater from the Palm\launcher folder on an Treo loaded with apps and the ROW firmware. Seems to install fine. I hope this works better than the 1.30 updater.

Now at 1.31FW and 1.13ROW SW

    My story...

Purchased unlocked GSM Treo650 in Australia from Officeworks.
Upgraded to 1.28 ROM from Palm Site
Downloaded 1.28 Customised ROM (no realplayer, tutorials, only English)
Added a heap of my own programs and gulp flashed the new ROM - it worked!
(I used Backupbuddyvfs to restore my files)
I have used this setup with VolumeCare for a few weeks

Just finished updating to 1.31 (thanks for the download guys)
    All went as expected.
I have turned off VolumeCare and my speakerphone is working louder than before with 1.28 (without Volumecare). It also sounds much clearer to me than it was before with VolumeCare.

All in all a great result and all seems stable and fine.

I tried installing the update 3 times with no change.

Still at fw 1.23. My phone info. doesn't show ROW version (unless it's off the right-hand side of the screen). There is no GSM update icon.

I have NOT yet resorted to doing a hard-reset.

Anyone have any ideas what step I'm missing?

    Thanks,

    Greg

Why dont you try updating to 1.28/1.13 first then update to 1.31?

I have VolumeCare installed too and will try what you suggested.

Update: VolumeCare makes a big difference when you want more volume to your Treo. Try the latest early access release, 2.18 and you'll experience what I mean. Also, the mic boost offered by VC makes people you speak with hear you much better

That goes without saying; that's what "Firmware" is on the Treo 650.

Yes, it works fine on the unlocked, unbranded GSM model.

The "update" to which he referred was the actual flashing of the firmware, not the update application which one executes to perform the flashing. After performing the update, the application is deleted.

Applied it to my P1 unlocked GSM T650; now at 1.13/1.31. I haven't tested exhaustively yet, but the caller of my first call received after applying 1.31, wondered where I was such that my voice was so clear; I was at home, very bad RF, usually the cause of people saying, "What? can you repeat that?".

Pop the battery for a few minutes and see if it recovers. If not, try inserting an SD card with the full ROW SD card flasher in the Palm directory as if you were flashing it fresh with ROW 1.13/1.28.

I can't get this to update. I'm running a custom 1.28 (no Real or VersaMail). I got to where I could see GSM Update on the Treo but nothing happens! Maybe mSafe is interferring?

How much available RAM do you have?

Also, try an up-button reset before running the updater. This avoids initializing your apps and frees cache / avoids conflicts. You're doing this with the radio powered off, right?

Your instructions on MTDN don't specify that the radio should be off be doing the update. It may be logical but not everyone will snap to that.

When I updated, my 650 automatically turned off the radio.
  17.    #37
Once the GSM updater is initialized, the radio will be automatically turned off if its on. I suspect your Treo didn't have sufficient memory for the update. It could also be one of your background applications. Did you update using the zip file I uploaded here? Did you tap on the GSM updater icon to run the firmware upgrade?

I did the 1.31 upgrade without a hitch from 1.28. Cingular orange phone, locked, with 17.5 MB free RAM.

After clicking on the GSM Update icon everything went smoothly for me. I am not running FW 01.31 and SW Treo650-1.13-ROW. I upgraded from FW 01.28, will let you know if I have any problems.

I was having problems upgrading from 1.28 on my mac, but I downloaded the file straight from Cingular, copied it into the launcher folder in the PALM folder of my SD card, then ran the update from there... you'll have to press just the firmware button when the card comes up, and it's been cool for me.

Prior to 1.31 I had issues with Autosyncing Versamail, my phone would freeze, it does not anymore, I believe my volume has improved, and I don't think I've heard anyone else mention this, when I was running 1.28 my phone would lag a bit sometimes, now it does not.

(I just got snap and am going snap happy, don't mind me )
