I have gone through posts here and other sites and do not see this problem.

If I use TakePhone to locate a contact and then click on the email address to start an email, then the phone resets itself. I have SnapperMail pop up with the email address, but after just enough time to see the email address header, the phone then resets itself.

Software loaded is TakePhone, PC Tunes, Ringo, Snappermail,AcidImage, BackupBuddy VBS. I have not tried to email from TakePhone before, but have had no problems in Snapper Mail.

I appreciate any comments, even ones stating that I did not find the previous comments on this problem.

One other problem I have found and it may be a bad setting, I can not dial any of the numbers in takephone without touching the screen. Did I not set it up correctly for the five way to scroll and select the number to dial?

Possibly related, I really don't know.

I was testing out Chatter this weekend, and 2day was monitoring it. When I clicked on the mail icon in 2day, it popped up a list of accounts (Chatter and Snapper), and when I clicked on Chatter it reset the phone.

Strange stuff. I have everything you have except BackupBuddy and am able to email directly from TakePhone - using the latest version of Snapper - without a problem. I can also set up a new email favorite and have that transferred to Snapper without issues. This is the second thread I've read about this problem and I'm looking for a common denominator to see where the problem is. Hope I find it before the bug bites me.

    Hi,

This is probably because youre using a Treo 650, with version 6.00 or something like that.

Please upgrade to the latest version at www.shsh.com/products

    Thanks

    Hi,

Regarding SnapperMail problems - this is strange.
    I see these crashes, too.

Problem is I see them too when setting a favourite as an email, and trying to start an email from there.

Which yields the suspicion of a bug in SnapperMail rather that TAKEphONE...
Have you contacted SnapperMail developers ?

    Hi all,

The more I play with this, the more it seems like a system problem:

    1. Testing with the simulator, I started with a hard-reset.
    2. Created an email type favourite entry with the built-in PHONE application.
    3. Did NOT install TAKEphONE, Outcall, or anything else.
    4. Used VersaMail (built-in) as a mail client - works well.

    5. Now I installed ChatterEmail, which also registers as a default email application.

*** First finding - seems like the last application installed that registers as an "email helper" is ALWAYS selected as the default email application, no matter what I select in the system "Default applications" prefs.

*** Second finding - in Chatter, if I launch it once from favourite to start a new message, then WITHOUT canceling that new message NOR sending it, I exit Chatter (press the PHONE button), then try to launch it again from that favourite - it crashes.
From now on the "email helper" system is unstable, until I manuall launch either VersaMail or Chatter (which register as the "Default email app" then).

I will try the same with SnapperMail to see how it goes...

I have the same problem with TakePhone 6.5 build 034 when launching Snapper Mail.

Snapper Mail is launched and then crashes.

SnapperMail launched from any other app works fine.

Shimon Did you find any cause for this ? I sent an email to takephone@shsh.com yesterday but haven't heard back.

I just tried the beta version 6.5 build 081 and it still crashes also.

    Hi,

Do you mean its launched with an email address ?

Can you give me an example of such applications ?

    Thanks.

    Shimon, thanks for replying.

Yes I am launching using the email address from the following apps.

You need to set Palm Preferences->Default apps->Email = "Snapper" first.
    1) ContactsPro v3.0.0 (www.mobilmate.com) Email from contact list
    2) Web (Blazer) email by clicking on an email address
    3) Xino (email by clicking on an email address

I can also launch snapper email successfully from these applications.
    1) Resco Explorer (select any file and menu "Send", select Snapper)
    2) Resco Viewer (select any image and menu "Send", select Snapper)
    3) Sounds app (built in) Select manage sounds, select a sound, select Send, select Snapper
    4) ZLauncher Select any app and hold for menu, select "Send", select Snapper,
    5) Media app (built in) Select an image, select send, select Snapper
    6) From contacts (built in) Select a contact, select send, select Snapper

Obviously the first three of more relavent especially Contact Pro since it is a very similar all.

    Hi,

Here's a way you can help - install and run the attached utility,
then tap the "Helper API" button.

Let me know if it starts a new message in SnapperMail without crashing.

    Thanks !

The AddEmail.prc app works launching email. I sent you an email with it.
You can reply to the address if you need any more testing.

    Thanks for looking into this.

I am using Snapper Enterprise (2.2.7.01) Registered.
Also trialing Chatter (1.1b7) which has the similar issue but a little different. See details.

Snapper- Snapper fails right after launch. In fact if you simply wait a few seconds after it is launched it will crash or the first action you take it crashes. It's as if the first pass through the event loop crashes the device.

Chatter- Chatter fails after you press send or Draft. You can enter your email then press send or draft and it will pause as if it is OK then crash.

If you need to work with the email app developer for help with the interaction I recommend Chatter. Snapper Support isn't too helpful.

I have one question. Why do I have to set my prefered email app in TakePhone ? All the other apps I mention just launch a email request and let PalmOS determine the default email program.

I suspect the problem is NVFS related. Is your app NVFS safe ? Does it lock itself ? Locking your app with Resco Locker seems to fix the issue. I would prefer not to have to lock it but I definately points to a NVFS issue. I only locked your app nothing else and the problem is gone. Seems like you need to stay locked until the email has been sent or something. Not sure how you can be notified when the interaction is done. Perhaps you are creating a file which is used to launch the mail program and it needs to be locked (how does it then get cleaned up ? ) Just slightly educated guesses since I am also a Palm Developer.
