Folks, please, know the type of phone you have and do not use any of these custom ROM's for locked GSM, or CDMA phones. You could kill your phone/PDA.

These files are just what I wanted. I am planning to build a custom ROM this weekend using 1.28 than update the phone FW to 1.30.
How much can be added to ROM #1 before I run out of space? thanks,

Based on my observation the ace-palmos.zip file is 18.3MB with nothing removed and 13.7MB with tutorial, languages and Real removed. So I should have 4.6M of space to add in 3rd party apps.
Anyone disagree with my math?

So I'm sure I should know this, but:
(a) What do I do with one these files in order to get them on my phone. (b) If I don't add any programs currently in RAM to the ROM, what are the benefits of having more ROM free? (c) If I screw things up, how do I go back? (I'd love to move some things from RAM to the ROM, but one step at time . . .) |

Hi Maria,
I used the file you sent me and I stripped the ROM from other stuff I don't want to see. All is working right. However, when I try to upgrade the Firmware from 1.28 to 1.30 (using the six files posted previously elsewhere), the software can't run after several attempts and then quits. It is very strange. Anyway, I think I can live with 1.28 for now. Thank you very much for your help. |

You asked to Maria, but I think I can share my info with you. I used Custom ROM 2 and removed some more stuff like the memo and todo PRCs and some leftovers. I use DBCache tool after the hard reset and this is what I have: Cache (heap size): 14679792 Free: 14213792 Max alloc: 14050504 After I move all my stuff back from my back up, I have: Cache (heap size): 14679792 Free: 12638454 Max alloc: 11682576 I have about 25 little apps in RAM, so I believe I have decent results. Could you please tell me how are you doing with your results? GB |

Thanks (esp. for the explanation of how to go back). Sorry for being such an ***** about this, but . . .
1) If I don't move any programs from RAM to ROM, do I get any benefits from a custom ROM? (I thought I saw in another thread that clearing out ROM can yield greater DB Cache, but didn't understand how/why that would be so.) 2) If I want to put programs from RAM to ROM, which directory do I put them in? Do I need to do anything to ensure that the Treo continues to recognize them as registered? |

Is the site down? I get a page not available error when I try and download any of the files.

I just did a comparison between the files in ROM on my unlocked GSM and the files in the uncustomized ROM listed here and find quite a few differences. Some files have different names. Also, in some cases I have files the ROM here doesn't and in some cases the ROM here has files I don't. One file I don't have is Splashscreen which the ROM here has. I wonder if this is an actual unbranded GSM ROM or a branded one modified to look like one with an unbranded splashscreen added.
I am not questioning anyone's integrity here. I would just like to know what I am actually installing if I go ahead. |

Remember, these ROM's are for an unlocked GMS phone! Do not use for anything else.
With the downloads, apparently there is such a demand, the 'owner' of the site had to put a limit level of downloads. If you all use the RescoExplorer, it makes the flashing process very simple to go back, or forward to another flash. It appears that sometimes the substraction does not exactly equal what can be put in or later space savings. The lang files are about .98 MB each, and all four, except English, have been completely removed, realizing a max savings of about 4 MB. The 1.30 FW flash always goes smoothly for me so I am not sure why yours may not. Others from time to time, not using a custom ROM also report problems at times with FW 1.30. DocGo: This link has info on my savings: http://discuss.treocentral.com/show...ustom+rom+space scottharris: check the post there is an instruction link for Sd/software use. sweider, the (shadowmite) tool will say about 6.2+ MB. That is close. jgm: I can't tell you if this file was modified prior to my receipt or not. I purchased a manuf (PalmOne) unbranded GSM world-phone. The ROM package has worked excellent for me, and has the same apps/items in it that mine originally had.... and now still does, avec the removals and additions I use. I'm interested, what apps are in, or not in, that are different than your phone/Treo?M |

Just flashed to Custom 1 and then the 1.3 upgrade. At home I used to get between zero to 2 bars of signal strength. Now I am getting 2 to 4 bars srength.
I never got 4 bars at home. As far as the sound quality goes, I did experience a little improvement in the volume. It has been only 2 hours. I will keep you posted as far as the sound volume and the signal strength being stable or not. |
