rjmoose, I just noticed that too. The charging sound is also muted. I consider this a perk because I was already using the "Supress KeyClick Sound" hack and now all of the annoying system sounds are muted without affecting alarms. Very sweet!

Agreed. I believe keycaps offers a range of 100ms - 500ms for both options.

At times I like having the system sound muted but this seems like it should be an option so we can choose not to have it that way.

    clippro
    keycaps 650
    shortcut5
    fieldplus
    McPhling

    Speed test result:

I use these apps and reluctant to delete them. I disabled the ones I could and the only noticeable difference in speed is in the pics and video app. You can use Resco viewer instead which is really fast.

What other difference do you notice when you get it down to 1 second? Is it worth deleting all the apps that's under hede to get to 1 sec?
Wow - amazing the difference this makes in the Media app. Some timings to go from one picture to another (fullscreen picture mode):

    With KeyCaps600: 2.8 secs
    With TreoKeyHack: 1.75 secs
    Without either: 1.5 secs

I had no idea the real-world slowdowns of these programs could be this bad in a program like the Media player!

I second that. I would be willing to pay you for this app if you could get lower interval numbers i.e 180ms, 240ms.

    Thanks again Igor...great app!!!

    VolKeys is another pig:
    With VolKeys: 2.5 secs
With VolKeys and KeyCaps600: 3.7 secs!!!!

I had been wondering why the Media app was so slow!

VolKeys and KeyCaps have been replaced by TreoKeyHack on my Treo 650 even though the side button scrolling with TreoKeyHack doesn't work as nicely in the Verizon Mail app (VolKeys doesn't highlight every active link in an email message; TreoKeyHack does).

Igor, any chance that TreoKeyHack could offer app launching capability when you press and hold a hard button? I'd be willing to type in the Creator ids of the programs to launch if you don't want to do the interface. And, would be nice if any hard button could be selected. I, too would be willing to pay for this hack.

BTW, one anomaly I've noticed with TreoKeyHack - it shuts off the system click, even though the System Volume appears unaffected in preferences. Was this intentional? Could it be configurable whether it does this? Thanks,

    - Bill

OK. Not with the new KeyShades and with TreoKeyHack and 2Day in its newest form (and reset so it will scroll through 3 views of "Calendar" like I used to have it set at before we learned that was putting it into hede), I am at 46 secs. 2Day is showing up on hede again I thought the fix was supposed to take it out of hede and speed things up.

With the new build of 2Day reset back to only 1 view of Calendar again (as it was before the last build), it is out of hede and my count is at 1212 tics and 12 seconds. Only things in hede now are KeyShades (Doomsey version) and TreoKeyHack. Guess that's as fast as it can be.

You can turn the sound on again in Prefs

You have full control over this in ProfileCare.

OK...so normally I know what I am reading/looking at, but when I run notif., it's like I am reading gibberish. Give me a Cisco router and I'll give you Internet access, but this output I can't understand!

What exactly does this program do? What exactly am I looking at? How can I use it to my advantage?

    HELP!

    Butler does this and more.

I would like to add my voice to the requests for a double click timing of shorter than 400ms. 220ms was my ideal timing in KeyCaps650.

Did you read my first post? It's all there man.

    guys,

To follow up on my previous post, are there alternatives to snapcalc, snapdates and treo navitext?

Thanks Igor for this gem of a tool. I'm now down to just 29 seconds even with text plus and clippro (several features disabled). I had to disable Profilecare in the meantime as it contributes significantly to my slowdown. (current config without PC is 29 seconds, with PC 114 secs!) Turning it off also enabled apps such as Jot and textplus to function properly. I used to experience slugishness with those two.

I have already addressed the problem to Jeff but he insists that it is safer to use sublaunch callback (for the treo 650) contrary to what the other developers here on this thread are doing.

Shimon and Doomsey, what's your stand on using specific call back address for the treo 650 and other nvfs devices? Is it really safer to use sublaunch (for nvfs sake) even if its an inefficient way to use resources?
  18. #118
    Well...

I really don't know. But Butler uses the fast callbacks, and I haven't heard of any instability associated with that, so I'm inclined to believe it's reasonably safe. We'll see, I guess.

Let me know if there's any problems.

Also, if you use the command bar activation mode of snapcalc, it doesn't hook hede.

Here is the net-net without going into deep details.

If you are doing foreground applications then registering for and using callbacks is a very safe method of handling notifications. In this case, you can lock your code and be assured that it will not move or be de-allocated on an NVFS system.

But the challenge comes when you have background applications that register for a notification and then exit. Even with locking down your code segment, you are not assured that your application addresses will continue to be valid in an NVFS system. The only time this is true is with applicaitons that are in ROM. These applications are assured that their addresses will remain constant until the next hard reset. That is why if you look closely, only those applications from PalmOne that are in ROM are using callbacks. The others do not use callbacks. Also, callback are asynchronous and some of the processing I am doing in ProfileCare needs to be synchronous. So callbacks wouldn't work in those cases.

This is what my reasearch and experience has been over the last 9+ months with the 650. I have been through many many debugging sessions only to find out that my addresses changed under me. I know what everyone is wanting and if someone can show me real hard evidence to the contrary, I will keep my design concepts the way they are in my current products. Believe me, I'd like to do these concepts because right now, ProcAlarms are also very unstable on the 650 for the same reason.

    Jeff
