What is the latest, recommended version of Keycaps? There ar 10+ copies here http://www.nekito.net/~sachs/palm/keycaps/. I am not sure which one is best.

My 680 clocks in at 4 secs.
    Pilot 5K->Palm IIIc->Tungsten T/T2->Treo 650/680 -> Pre+ (1.4.5 & Uberkernel)

M68k programs are ok, they register the fast way, that is the new way programs reg now

i used to use field plus , remove that and check speed again i bet that is adding allot of time to your palm

i would suggest moving over to treokeyhack with yahm on mytreo.net, both free

treokeyhack is just like keycaps600 and also allows you to highlight text with the 5way and copy and paste

my speed test is 10 secs on my treo 755, was right around the same thing on my treo 700p

    under hede i have:
    lightwav
    speaksms
    butler
    sub-launcher
    hi-launcher

they are all m68k... that is why the device is still fast

In checking mine out, I found these under hede and I was at 163sec. Wow.

    Zlauncher
    Screenshot5
    KeyCaps600
    McPhling

I dropped Screenshot5 and dropped to 103sec. Making ZL not default drops way down to 31sec!! I really have to keep KeyCaps and McPhling and ZL. I read through most of the 31 pages of this thread but didn't see where anyone ever found a way around the ZL hit in hede? I switched out Screenshot5 for ScreendumpDA.

the newest zlauncher removes the hede hit, download the latest version...
i enable screenshot before i am going to use it, dont keep it enabled all the time

keycaps.. i use treokeyhack... and that isnt a hede hog, just like keycaps
    can find on mytreo.net

    Hey rickstreo

I dumped Mcphling because it took a big hit on my Sprint 700p in the hede.

Typically I stay away from apps that ride in the hede. So far I only have KeyShades hack, Lighwav and Initiate set to the home button. With those three apps, my PI speed is 520 ticks in 5 seconds.

I can live with that. I went with Switch5 and PetiteLauncher for quick app launchers.

I use Snap for screen grabs. And I have ScreenDumpDA, but don't use that very often.

I know ZLauncher takes a pretty good sized hit in the hede. If you have a 700p, try LudusP and use that to set ZLauncher to the home button.

Thanks, guys. I disabled McPhling while I try out HiLauncher - I didn't realize this was so configurable! I also didn't realize the new version of ZL fixed the hede hit. Now all I have is HiLauncher and KeyCaps which gives me a speed of 7sec. Pretty good considering where I was at prior to the fixes.

Has anyone compared Launch Anywhere to HiLauncher? I have both but switched to Launch Anywhere a while back because it hooks into ZLauncher automatically. It's the only thing in hede and I get 125 seconds!

I tried out Launch Anywhere. With that hede hit, I could have stuck with McPhling and been better off. That's why I went with HiLauncher. I don't see that much of a difference otherwise. LA may be "prettier" to look at. But I don't really care about that much.

i moved to hi-launcher because of the hog that launch anywhere is

I wasn't going to change because it only takes a small hede hit and I don't currently have YAHM installed. I have never really had great success using hacks so I tend to shy away from them. But I will give this a try because reading back, there is a lot of good comments about it. Thanks!

edit: Well, I am using it instead of KeyCaps. Went from 7sec to 6sec. I don't know if there is an application that does what McPhling and HiLauncher can do without the hede hit. But it would be nice.

For the minimum hede hit, make sure that you're using the patched (v0.9: 13-Sep-05) version:

I couldn't say. I've never tried the beta.

I think you've done well for yourself going from 163 sec to 6 sec. Good job.

mine is now at "Time in tics 165, time in secs 2" after disabing Clippro, which resulted in a huge improvement.

But I have to ask what do the lower numbers really mean? I don't feel my 650 is any faster. Does it make the Treo crash less?
  19. #619
I enabled Clippro and the speed test result is:

Time in tics 1635, time in secs 16

I really need Clippro and don't want to disable it. Again what does lower numbers in the speed test means? anybody?

Try CutPaste5 instead of Clip Pro.

As for your other questions, please read the thread. Programs like emulators, games, video players, and the photo viewer will all go faster when they're not bogged down with programs subscribing to hede. There are other examples in this thread as well. Basically, any program that relies on constant CPU usage or button presses is going to be improved.
