Hi, a friend of mine just dropped his treo and...

" dropped my Treo and the keyboard and center button is disabled but the touch screen works fine. I need to figure out a way to bypass my locked screen as I can't type my password. I'm sure there is a backdoor or a certain reset method to bypasss it. I'd love to get past it so I can save all my data with one last synch before I exchange the phone"

    any ideas?

Your friend should be able to call the carrier and get this taken care of.

Try a warm reset. Hold the "up" button while resetting. Don't release the up button until the power is back on and everything is loaded up. This might help.

Unfortunately I think the way to get around the password screen is to do a hard reset. Of course, after that you no longer have the option to save your data. I don't think there is anything that can be done at this point.

My concern with this thread is that anyone who finds a Treo on the street would be able to bypass the password screen and eventually get at the data. My advice to you, take it to your carrier store and have them work on it... I'm not sure how long in between your hotsync's but I can't see that much data being lost unless you hotsync like once a month...

I know it might be my suspicous non-trusting New torker mentality, but still, the password screen is there for a reason.. and you should have some comfort knowing that it works...

How often do you think that really happens? And the person who finds it would have to be smart enough to go to TreoCentral and search for this specific thread. People have been members around here for ages and still don't know how to search these threads properly (like myself).

funny thing is, he's a new yorker!! He refuses to use a holster, and keeps dropping these things. I actually just bought a set of egrips to give him.

I'll have him try the warm reset, but I guess that's the only solution.

Oh well, gonna have to learn to sync more often i guess.

What program can he use to auto sync?

Are you sure this New Yorker friend of yours isn't you and you bought those egrips for yourself?!?!? J/k!

Personally I don't use use a holster or egrips...I just toss it in my pocket. I've dropped my phone 10 times, give or take a couple....and it still boots up like nothin' happened. It is annoying to watch the battery cover fly off, tho.

Umm....what's wrong with the built-in hotsync? Get an charge/sync cable and just hit the button whenever you can remember. Also, get a backup solution. Others use BackupMan/BackupBuddy....I chose Resco Explorer since I wanted a good explorer..plus it has a built-in zip utility and backup solution. It's only $13, or something like that....Resco's Image Viewer is also worth the money, IMO.

Here's a link to a cheap all-in-one cable on eBay...plus it has a usb to ac adapter plug. Nice! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ory=48657&rd=1

Sounds like a key is stuck. You may be able to get the middle button working if you unstick the key by holding it up gently with a fingernail, or maybe not. Feel around to see if a key isn't clicking.

Dude Treocentral is very popular. You don't even have to search the forums, you can just google it (topic) and it will bring up all the specific Treocentral pages relevant to the issue. How do you think I found this place? I googled Ptunes and playing mp3's on t650 and it led me right to Treocentral and a few other major Treo boards.

I'm just saying, that if anyone found a Treo, like that clown in the other thread who said he was going to keep it... I would hope that they couldn't so easily bypass the password feature. That was my concern, all about the morality and ethics my friend...

Anyway, let's just move on... I believe what someone suggested is correct, a button might still be stuck causing this. Easiest thing to do is take it to your cell phone shop and let the pro's deal with it...

Totally understand and agree. What's funny is that questions like these are almost always on behalf of the poster's *friend*. Could be a coincidence here.

While I might be changing the topic a little, there's this friend of mine who has a Treo 650 and while I don't agree with his philosophy, he's trying to convert this porn DVD to video format that for optimal viewing on the Treo. I was wondering if anyone knew how to convert it so that I could get him to stop bothering me already...

    NOO!!!!!!!!!!

Like Kurt said above, do a WARM RESET!!! I warm reset will always get around the system lock feature. Unfortunately, this is a major defect of the lock feature...

He's been around since 2002. He must be a really smart criminal! I on the other hand--only been around since November and a "lurker" might be someone to worry about. He He He! (My evil Yosemeti Sam laugh).
