OK, so I did the search thing. All the threads I found suggested a new launcher. Either Zlauncher, or LauncherX. So I downloaded and installed Zlauncher. I like it, will probably keep it, but it doesn't seem to do what I am looking for.

The Documents2go people have a small utility that moves their files over to the card, while maintaining the launch icon in the normal launch folder (In my case the "main" folder.)

I used Zlauncher to move some files to the card...simple enough, but now they show up in the "card" folder. I want them to stay in thier orginal folders while the apps move to the card.

Is there some small utility similar to what the Documents2go folks have created that will allow me to do this?

Is this feature built into Zlauncher, and I just missed it?

    Thanks,
    Dave

When you move the apps to the card with Zlauncher, are you telling Zlauncher to make a shortcut to the app? That is the last checkbox on the move dialog. If you do that, the shortcut will be created in the same category the app was in.

Strange I am moving the app using the File Manager. I don't see that option. I pic the app from a list of files. Using the "move" command from the menu, or using the move icon on the bottom of the screen, I only get a confirm box, click ok and it moves. I don't see any check box.

    I am using version 5.2

I notice that if I look at the information for the file, that it has a "link" check box, but it doesn't allow me to check it.

    I must be missing something.

    Thanks,
    Dave

You don't have to use the Zlauncher file manager to move files. Either hold down the 5-way center button or hold the stylus on an app and a list of actions/options will pop up. Choose "move to card" and a second dialog box will pop up giving you the options involved in moving the app. Be sure to check the create shortcut box.

When in the application list (the regular home button view) put the pen down on an app and keep it there for a few seconds. A menu will pop up and you can select "Move to card" from there. This will move the application and all associated files (if you tell it to) to the card, plus it will add a shortcut to the menu.

It's been a while since I moved anything, so I don't recall if it adds the shortcut to the category it was in or if it puts it in the Card section. If the shortcut shows up in the wrong place, repeat the click/hold and there is an option to move the icon to category of your choosing.

Move files without using the file manager...who would have thought. Perfect, thanks so much for the prompt replies.

I think I am really liking Zlauncher.

Not to start a flame war or anything, but does LauncherX do the same type of things, and which has larger overhead?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Do you mean shorcuts? Yes...and LX has less overhead.

LauncherX does the same type of stuff, yes. Different people like different things about the two applications, but I remember running around between the two applications for about 2 weeks before I decided to buy ZLauncher and stick with it.

I honestly couldn't give you a break down of why I picked ZLauncher in the end, and if I looked at the two now it would probably take me just as long to justify to myself why I still use ZLauncher over LauncherX. In the end, I honestly wouldn't be suprised if my final decision was based on the skin I use and the fact it wasn't available for LauncherX.

Zlauncher is easier to navigate with the 5-way control, although, you can't yet access the toolbars with the 5-way. Also, LauncherX has not been updated in a long time due to the accidental death of the main developer.
The next beta of Zlauncher adds a Bluetooth plugin for the toolbars.
This all comes down to personal preference. I used LauncherX on my Palm m125, Treo 300 and Treo 600. I now use Zlauncher on my 650 and would not go back.

Thanks zvandiver, that made my day. I've just recently started using ZLauncher and really like it, but the one think I miss about the default launcher is the bluetooth icon. I'm glad to hear that is about to be added.

Check out this thread about the Zlauncher 5.3 beta. It includes a new plugin that enables the Bluetooth icon. http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=87102
