Hi, I know this is a bore-*** question for most, but I can't nail the answer down by searching the board.

I have a Cingular 650. I have upgraded to the 1.13/1.28 software/firmware via the CodyWalker PalmOne methods.

I bought a code from an eBay remote unlocking service. I put in my code, and got the SIM lock removed message.

I don't have a T-Mobile or other SIM to test the phone with ... gotta find one.

BUT, what I do have that I didn't have is the SELECT NETWORK option now. I am able to see two CINGULARs and one TMOBILE. I can select and log into either CINGULAR (blue and orange, I assume).

Does this mean I have successfully unlocked the phone? Or that my firmware update did it?

    Thanks,

    Roger

Well, just to confuse it a bit....

I have still not upgraded my phone to 1.28, it is unlocked (natively) with a Att SIM. And I get 2 cingular and a tmobile.

Are you sure it's not from the unlocking process?
I have a New Unlocked 650 because my 600 was stolen from me when I was traveling from Singapore to Bangkok. Mixed blessing?

Sounds like you must be Cingular Blue (the old ATTWS). The Network Select feature is disabled in Cingular Orange (original Cingular) SIMs. If you're using an Orange SIM, and still seeing the Network Select option, then I envy you - there are many of us who are wishing for that functionality with our Orange SIMs.

My original SW was CNB, not CNG, so yes, I think I have an ATTWS phone. ATT was big in town, and my exchange 760-xxxx was an ATTWS exchange back in the day. I'm in Belton, Texas, just up the road from you Jetkins.

I find that if I select one CINGULAR over the other I get much better service out in the boonies where I live, and when I go into town, it sometimes changes to the other one. But I have to manually select when I get home.

Gotta find me someone who uses T-Mobile around here to test my unlock code.

    Happy 4th, y'all.

QUESTION: Should my presumed ATTWS phone has a blue SIM, would it be locked to an orange SIM in it's out of the box state, or will it see and orange or blue SIM as native? Maybe I can test that way.

Went to work this morning and one of the folk had a T-Mobile SIM. I popped it into my Treo, and voila, I had T-mobile across the top, and could make calls.

So, the conclusion is that, at least in my case, the remote unlocking service was a success. Also, I queried the eBay seller dude and he replied that the number the keygen on the server gave me is the one that Cingular would have provided.

If so, this baby should stay unlocked.

    Thanks.
