I'm now beyond pissed off (palmOne is freaking useless).

HOW CAN I GET PAST 'SYNCHRONIZING CONTACTS'?

I restored from an earlier contacts DB but nothing. Still freezes. "address" directory on computer is empty, and I've reconfirmed that sync is to Palm Desktop (not Exchange/Outlook).

I suggest that you install the latest version of dbScan (v1.9c) on your Treo. Launch it, choose "Neither" and from the menu select,"Remove all deleted records" - do this for both the Palmone and Palmsource databases.

You're either illiterate, a moron or just trying to be funny. Nowhere in my message did it say contract, so I'm unsure WTF you're talking about.

I'm having the same problem, except instead of the AddressDB my hotsync fails and my 650 gsm resets when it gets to DatebookDB. This started happening after I upgraded to firmware 1.28. I still haven't found a fix. Have you found a solution for the problem you're experiencing?

Bill Gamble - you wrote "I suggest that you install the latest version of dbScan (v1.9c) on your Treo. Launch it, choose "Neither" and from the menu select,"Remove all deleted records" - do this for both the Palmone and Palmsource databases."

My hotsync crashes on the DatebookDB. The log says that the iSync conduit can't find the DatebookDB and that it attempts to create one. After that the hotsync is cancelled. When the hotsync gets stuck on the DatebookDB my 650 gsm resets. Would the remedy you suggested work for this as well? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Okay, I also had this problem recently and here's how I fixed it...

What has mostly likely happenned is that you contact DB on the Treo has been corrupted which is causing the hotsync to hang. To fix this you will have to delete the corrupted contact db and then re-sync. Below is the procedure I used to do this:

First of all my problem was that my contacts hadn't been properly synced in a while. Fortunately I found that there were only a handful on new contacts, so I just wrote those down. Another option is to copy the ContactsDB-Padd.dpb file from ram to the card for save keeping just in case. You can then copy that to your computer later if you want.

The first step is to export your contacts database of the PD. Goto the PD > contact >select all > under files goto export. This will export all your contacts to an *.aba file. You can try to import this file to a fake/temp username just to make sure you have exported the entire contacts database.

Go to your c:\program files\palmone\username\address folder and copy all the database files to a safe location just in case. Then need to goto to the PD and select all and delete all the contacts on your desktop. I don't think you should select the option of archiving the contacts files. Go back to c:\program files\palmone\username\address and delete all the files.

On the Treo, using fileZ or etc, delete the ContactsDP-Padd.db file. I first copied the file to the card before deleting just to be extra cautious if I need to restore it. Check that your contacts are empty.

You should now hotsync and the contacts should no longer freeze during synchronization. After the first successful hotsync, goto the PD and import the contacts.aba file that you exported earlier to your username, and then hotsync again (make sure contact is set to synchronize under the custom conduit settings). The contacts should transfer to the Treo now.

The above procedure worked for me... .

If you've performed a hard reset (and haven't restored via hotsync yet), you don't have any PIM data in your Treo and so dbScan won't do anything for you. If HotSync stalls on Memos, then it must be that you've got a bad record on the desktop.

Launch Palm Desktop, go to Memos, category = All, Edit/Select All and from the File menu choose Export. Then, still in Memos - category = All, Edit/Select All and then Edit/Delete. Now that you've deleted all of your memos, reimport them from the File/Import menu. Try to Hotsync again.

It wasn't really, it's just that a "memopad archive" has the same extension as a type of movie file (mpa). It'll import just fine.

I was able to fix a similar problem with a corrupt datebook entry by having the desktop overwrite the HH for one synch. After that the offending entry (and resets) went away.

im not sure what the problem is, but this keeps occuring?
how do i get it to stop?

did u try changing the hotsync conduit to "desktop overwrites handheld" for the program that hangs? it has worked for me a few times..

the handheld is the most accurate, so i wouldnt want the desktop to overwrite the hand held

This happends to me all the time now. DBScan is the only way to fix this with Contacts & Memos, the a worse part is I have to rename all my contacts & memos, because they get put under the Unfiled section. I noticed this happens when I use D.A. & copy the address/phone #'s to contacts or clipboard, maybe I'm wrong, what do you folks think?

There was a problem with an older version of dbScan removing record links within DB5; I don't remember a problem about categories. Are you using v1.9c?
