I have a Linksys USBBT100 and Sprint update 1.12. I tried to follow the tutorial but am stuck. Where it says to right-click on the BT icon and select "Quick Connect," I don't have that option. I have been messing with this for the majority of 2.5 days. HELP!!!!!!!!!

I have a Sony Vaio with built in bluetooth. I had to go to <start menu><Connect to><Show all connections><Create a new connection (in left margin under Network Tasks)>.

It could also be a problem with the dongle and sp2.

I've attached a document from Belkin that solved the problem I had when I was using a Belkin dongle.

I have read that the Linksys dongle has problems with XP-SP2. Check the Linksys website for updated drivers, but there may not be any. If not, I think this web page has a way to use some alternate drivers.

I haven't dealt with this myself, so do some research before trying this.

Marianne, my Linksys and your Belkin dongle had the same problem with XP. Your fix in the .pdf worked like a charm, thank you. I'm posting this reply using DUN.

Thanks slithy and dutchtrumpet also for responding.

I'm so glad I could help you! I think I aged ten years before I found the solution!

Beau- I'm thinking about picking up the Linksys USBBT100 (probably tomorrow) so I can use DUN. What's your impression overall?

    Thanks...

I have a Linksys USBBT100 that I use for DUN every once in a while. It works fine with XP SP2 and the 1.12 update. Just make sure you follow the instructions in the pdf file above (Linksys also has the same instructions on their web site somewhere). I haven't compared it to any others, but I don't think there is going to be any huge differences. The only major factor for me was size. The Linksys was a lot smaller than the rest.

Cool, thanks. Good to hear. I'm shooting for the USBBT100 as it seems to be a fairly popular Class 1 device. Thanks again

oh geez. i just checked and I actually have a dlink dbt-120. I'm really sorry about the mix-up. the dlink is the small one, much smaller than the linksys.

one thing you might want to research: whether the treo is class 1, and if not, whether both devices have to be class 1 in order for you to get the greater range. personally, i don't think i've ever used a bluetooth device more than 1-2 meters away from my treo. i just can't imagine having my treo 100 m away.

Check out Belkin's bluetooth dongle. It has a really sleek design.
