Can someone please explain to me why i should spend this $600 on the treo or why i shouldn't. Or is there another sprint product besides the blackberry that i should be aware of within the next month or two?
    Thank you.

First question what do you intend to use it for?

if you use a phone and palm often, then you will know why you need a treo. If you don't feel that you could get $600 worth of use out of it, then don't buy it. I use mine all the time and could not get by my day without it. My whole life is in my treo. I don't even know my wife's cell phone number. I also have my grade book and lesson powerpoints on it.

I use my Treo for the phone, it's slimmer than my Smasung a670 and fits in my pocket better which is good, I got a 1 GB card for MP3's so it's also a DAP, I have a ton of games for Palm OS and I'm also going to get NesEm to play all my NES ROMS as well. If only the camera was a little bit better I wouldn't even need to bring a standalone digicam with me since mine is only 1.3 megapixels and I have no need for anything better.

    Yes it can.

I have had a PDA with me since probally 2 years ago. I just sold my Axim x50v thinking i wouldn't need a PDA since my new job doesn't require one, but i started finding it hard to keep track of things when i'm not in the office. And now my phone is aged so i decided that I needed a new phone and a PDA...ding ding ding -=)

$600 isn't alot if you were planning on buying a PDA and a phone... It'll be neat to get all my emails on the PDA, have my instant messenger on at all times, and be able to have the normal PIM functions i've grown to love.

My Treo 650's biggest advantages are it's instant messenger capabilities, sending and receiving text messages, and the ability to compose detailed emails just as if I was typing them on my laptop. The Treo goes everywhere with me, the laptop doesn't.

Pay $600 for a 650?? I got it thru our Verizon corporate plan for 3 bills.

The biggest advantage to me is documents to go. I use spreadsheets quite a bit and check my mail as well since I am away from my desk a lot.

As Insertion would say... To go get me a cold one from the Fridge...

Spend a little cash for an (2GB) Sd card and about 20 bills for pocket tunes (great great program - much better than Real Player -- But real player is free if you are strapped for cash) and you've now got a mp3-player/phone/pda.

Insertion will appreciate this: I have an old "dorm" fridge in my garage. I keep a few bottles of beer in there all the time. Over the course of a year, I trained my Golden Retriever to respond to "Beer Charlie Beer!" by running to the firdge, pulling on a rope that I bolted onto the upper outer corner of the door to get the dooer open, grabbing a beer in his jaws, and bringing it back to me. Old Chuck has broke about 5 bottles (methinks just to lap up some beer) by dropping them. Now I put the bottles in cheep truck-stop coolies and he has no problem holding onto them. I'm still trying to teach him to close the door.

If I get my nerve up (8and risk my Treo's life) I mat clip the Treo onto Charie's caller thereby making the very first :

Doesn't the wireless companies give you price price break if you are a new account? Anyway, if you want to wait for the next best thing, you probably be waiting as almost each year a new product is announced whether it is Palm or PPC.

It just depends upon how much you want to be in the bleeding edge.

Consider it like a car, once you drove off the car company sales lot, it is depreciated considerably.

Just took my gout medication before I saw the avatar and I thought I took the wrong pills.

I really need to change my boring avatar

And oh back to the subject, IMHO, if you are wondering if you need a PDA, you don't need a PDA. You cannot create a need for a PDA.

Visor Deluxe, Prism, Visorphone, Treo 270, Treo 600, Treo 650, and am eagerly waiting for the next generation Treo...but wait...is that the iPhone????

This is so weird. I had laser eye surgery by a retinal specialist last week. I was looking at the beginning of these posts, saw that avatar, and immediately thought I had a bad problem. I must admit, I freaked!!

After getting up and walking around for a few minutes and realizing I could do nothing about it on a Friday night, I came back and decided to just continue reading.

    What a sigh of relief!

Call me stupid, but it really got me for sure.

But on the subject, I slightly disagree about knowing whether or not you need a pda. I had no idea how useful it could be, but decided to take the jump with my 650 because it looked to be a good combination of features and appeared to be, and is, a good combination of form and function. It was a great decision.
