Could someone please advise me on how to use DbCache? For whatever reason, it doesn't help or release any NVFS RAM at all, and I need it to run Goodlink! Otherwise my Treo is unusable. I've tried all types of different settings, but it doesn't seem to work for me! :-(
My Treo: Treo 650, Sprint CDMA. SW: 1.08, HW: A.
My Plan: $105/mo for 2000 AT, Unlimited N&W starting at 7pm, Unlimited PCS to PCS, No Roaming Charges in the U.S., Unlimited PCS Vision, Unlimited SMS & PictureMail.
My Stats: Using an average of 50MB of PCS Vision per month. 2,500+ photos in my PCS PictureMail account. Had a Treo 600 since 10/24/03, switched to a Treo 650 on 1/5/05.

From your sig., I hope you're still not running 1.03!

No, actually 1.08 (my apologies, I haven't updated my sig). I won't update to 1.12 until I get this issue worked out on my Treo with Goodlink. My company just got Goodlink and I need it to work on my Treo, but already I've sacrified most of my apps to run from card and I can get Good to load, but I can't get much of anything to load after that (with free NVFS cache of about 600kb).

    Please help with DBCacheTool!

Hey, thanks for this. The new version seems to actually do things that you can measure.

There's a new setting, "Clear type", that I set to DB (being cautious, I checked "Safe Mode"...I don't really know what that buys me). Now, from past experience, I don't think I want automatic, constant clearing of the DBCache, so while I check "Clear at softreset", I don't use AutoClear; instead, I call up the DBCacheDA and tap Clear when I think the heap's getting low. With this version, I get a pop up that says "DBCache:clear processing"; when I then check my Storage Heap Total Free and my NVFS Cache Total Free with the Memory Info app, there is a definite increase.

    Bill,
Do you get a soft reset when you tap Clear in the DA version? I used the same settings you have, and a few seconds after the clear processing popup my Treo resets. That accomplishes the same thing, I guess, but I had hoped to be able to clear the cache without having to reset. I can do that through Zlauncher.

PS: I never got the first version to do anything, and I used evilghost's settings exactly.

No, it doesn't reset, it just brings the cache back up to over 4mg.

To turn off the auto clear function, tap the OFF button under Auto Clear:. To clear the cache manually, you need:
    1. To install DBCache's companion DA application, "DBCacheDA"
    2. To install a DA launching app like DALauncher or McPhling

If you've done 1 & 2 and have configured the launcher correctly, merely invoke DBCacheDA and tap Clear.

OK I've done that and can manually run dbcache, but everytime it runs auto or manually my 650 resets is this normal?

What free and max settings are you using?

I am still experimenting, I just switched to 4/0
I have been using 7/1 w/ good results.

My only issue currently is with LW 5.5. When the phone resets and clears the cache, the phone will not dial w/o a reset. I have to disable LW and make a call, then reinable LW and it starts working again.

I just added LW to the apps list, but I dont understand how this section works.
    Can anyone provide insight?

Do you run any older programs? A reset when you try to clear the cache is almost always due to an incompatible program that you've run recently. Usually it's a program that is still running in the background but isn't tagged properly by the Treo that it is still running. When the Treo tries to clear it from cache, it causes a reset.

Hope that helps, but I'd try to update your other software.

I think I found my problem with the resets. I ran the latest version directly from the main Applications launcher and it worked correctly. If I run it from Zlauncher, I get the resets. I guess the best thing is to exit Zlauncher and then clear the cache.

I don't have zlauncher, i run it directly from DALauncher and still have resets.
