Shimon - Does the weather info source you utilize for 4Cast provide information (text or otherwise) on:

    1. the chance of precipitation ("80% chance of rain" for example)
    2. timing of that precipitation (20% chance of rain 9:00AM, 40% 1:00PM, 80% 3:00PM)

If so, I would love to see this information included in 4Cast as a preferences selection. Some people may want to see the brief summary currently displayed by 4Cast while others may want a little more detail.

EDIT: perhaps clicking on the day would reveal more text/detail or even better....maybe a DPAD press would open the next screen that could be the text/detail for the 5 day period shown on 4Cast.

    Hi,

Sorry - weather.yahoo.com does not show this, as far as I can say...

it kind of does, but I'm not sure if it's in a format you can use for 4cast. Here's an example from my area:

    http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USTX0617.html

Local Forecast - (How to Read This)

Today: Partly to mostly cloudy with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. High 92F. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Tonight: Scattered thunderstorms ending early, then becoming clear after midnight. Low 73F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. High 92F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

Tomorrow night: A few clouds early, but generally clear. Low 72F. Winds NNE at 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, chance of a thunderstorm. Highs in the mid 90s and lows in the low 70s.

Monday: More sun than clouds. Highs in the upper 90s and lows in the mid 70s.

Tuesday: Isolated thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
4cast seems to be getting the data and icons from the 5 Day Forecast at the top.

I'd love to see the detailed information, as I like to fish, and long with sunrise/sunset and wind information, chance of precipitation are of great interest to me.

I see what you mean. It does not show those details where I live...

I will think of how to add this.

    Thanks

Thanks PabloTX for the heads-up on Yahoo weather content. Yahoo weather shows the detail in my area as well. Perhaps just in the States?

Another app called TreoAlarm (http://www.treoalarm.com/index.html) uses Yahoo weather or the US National Weather Service (user preferred) and both options pull the text into the summary. The first screenshot is of US National Weather service results and the second is the Yahoo weather info. Then with DPAD-ing to the right, the text advances to reflect future forecast (today, late afternoon, tonight, Sunday, Sunday night, etc).

The question becomes how to display this text and how a user would navigate through the text in 4Cast.

While I'm pulling wish-list items out of my arse, I thought of this little gem:

While on the main 4Cast screen showing the forecast for current and the following 4 days, would it be possible for the user to click on any of the days and to open more detail for that day (text and other info)?

Another question Shimon: are you committed to the Yahoo weather site for 4Cast? Have you considered Wunderground or other sources as well? The reason I ask is that I find Wunderground offers the most accurate and important daily detail breakdown. For example, this link will show probability of precipitation, humidity, temp/dew-point, winds and other detail at several intervals through the selected day. Understanding that there is a noticeable decline in the chance of precipitation from 100% at 8AM this morning to 21% at 5PM this afternoon helps me better plan for my *outdoor* party tonight. http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/...ekday=Saturday Could you use Wunderground and scrape some of this info into a daily matrix for 4Cast?

I'd also like to see this. Obviously, things change quite a bit over the week, but the more information available the better.

    Shimon,

I have "refresh all at once" checked, but if the scheduled update doesn't run at the scheduled time (radio off, etc), the next time I run 4cast, it will only update the current location, not all.

    Hi all,

Just took a look, and it seems the extra info is indeed supplied at many areas within the states, but not here. My bad for not testing with US cities more...

Anyway - I will try to add as much info as I can get from the Yahoo site, in the next 4cast version/s.

Regarding reading from other sites - let me be frank: for a $5 application (take into account about half of this gets to me... then another half goes to taxes...) my obvious priorities are with TAKEphONE, 2day, and newer products, first...

I might have the time for 4cast in the near future, and I will try making a 4cast+ with these requests, and auto-update.

    Thanks.

    Shimon,

I'd happily pay $10 or so for a "plus" version, and was (pleasantly) surprised that you put the scheduled update in the existing version.

    Thanks for the quality products.

    Hi,

The scheduled update will be part of the $10 version, when I release it (considered a beta right now... BTW - no problems with it ?)

    Thanks for your kind words.

I haven't had any issues with it to speak of, other than the issue referenced above:

I have "refresh all at once" checked, but if the scheduled update doesn't run at the scheduled time (radio off, etc), the next time I run 4cast, it will only update the current location, not all.

Nothing that causes instability, but something that doesn't work as I would expect.

But it does work great for me, as I don't have a data plan and the 5:30 scheduled update ensures that the data session comes out of my free nights/weekends time.

Shimon, I have no problems with a $10 version. Ben

I also have version 1.62 (05d) and it's working great for me.

4cast has rapidly become one of my favorite 3rd party applications. I have it set to retrieve weather info at 6am just before I wake up, so when my wake up alarm (also on my treo ) goes off, I can check the weather before I start my day. I also like how 4cast logs off the data network automatically.

Great software! Thanks for providing it, Shimon!

Understood and respected. But let me be frank: I'd pay more for having more pertinent daily detail. Let me know when and how we can help whenever you're ready to focus on the 4cast+. Thanks for considering it.

I'd love to see things like radar & satellite imagery, a plug-in for Facer, more detailed forecasts, alerts for severe weather and scheduled background updates.

I'd also be willing to pay much more for such a feature-rich weather product. I'm also a Windows Mobile user... where there's an embarrassment of riches when it come to weather software (of course none of them cost just $5 ;-) ). My favorite is WeatherPanel by Marsware which I feel is a bargain at $12.99.

I'll be frank too (even though my name's not Frank): I don't need the auto-update feature of 4cast. I thought I wanted auto updates when the app first came out, but then realized that I like my weather information completely up to date. So I just have it set to refresh each time I open the app. It only takes a few seconds to update anyway.

That way, I can see the current temparature and forecast and not worry about how old the information is.

What did you do to set it refresh each time? I didn't see that option (might have missed it, won't be the first time).
    Thanks
