I don't know if this has been discussed here because I didn't find it when I did a search. Here is the website.

    http://www.pocketdimension.com/PalmMAME.html

I haven't tried it since I'm still waiting for my Cingular Treo 650. I've just been doing so much research on the Treo 650 that I ran into this page. It looks promising. Only thing is that it is based on the old .36 mame so it doesn't support the newer games. Try it out and give your reactions and opinions here.

by the way, little john is the greatest thing ever, it emulates:
nes, snes, gameboy, gameboycolor, game gear, sega master system, sega genesis/megadrive, wonder swan, neo geo pocket, and atari. Did I forget any?

Mame also has an extension to do original neogeo games (think king of monsters!) but I havent tried it yet because little john has kept me so busy.

All you have to do is put "PalmMameLoader.prc" on the Treo

and the other files on the SD card in palm/programs/PalmMAME

put the roms on the SD card in palm/programs/PalmMAME/roms

launch PalmMameLoader, it will do some flicker test thing (only the first time running it.)

Click on a rom name that is in blue.

to get past the ok screen push left and right

Do you have all the roms in one zip file? They can be zipped but separately zipped.

They have to be the mame 32 kind.

I just sent you a private message.

thanks robot!! I got it working now,the roms I tried were corrupt or incompatable, but I got it up and ruNing now w/o any probs, this is pretty nice......LJP still is the best....well that is if they ever fix all the reset issues, but I like it anyway!!

Yes I know LPJ is great except for the resets. But they are 2 different types of games so I have them both. I did get his doom game working too but after remapping the buttons for doom it messed up PalmMame's button configuration. It was weird so I took it off. But Doom was really cool.

ok , one more question, how do I get back to the game launcher when i'm done with a game and want to play another one, whenever I exit a game it takes me to the palm launcher ,then I have to go back to the mame app to play another game, do I configure a button for 'menu' or what?? I almost have it set the way I want it, playing frogger brought back a lot of memories, thx in advance!!

I have the exit setting mapped to the center button on the treo to exit a game. I realize that some people might not want to map the center button to the exit setting, thinking they might accidently push it, but I don't really ever hit it by accident.

The hard part is getting v0.36 roms for PalmMame. There are conversion tools out there that help you do this.

And yes, palmmame does support sound.

I tried to set this up on my 650 tonight and I'll gotta ask is even if you put this on the SD card, how much memory do you need to get it to run?!? I start off with 4.5 MB free on the Palm, then I run PalmMame, it starts flickering, then stops and tell me my memory is too low and to start deleting stuff. Then I pop back into Launcher X and find 0.38 MB left.
ROOTING for WebOS makes me more sympathetic to Cubs fans.

That is likely because PalmMAME reset when trying to search the ROMS. It's Ok, just run PalmMAME again and it will free up the memory. I think what happens is the Modules are copied from the SD card to RAM, if a reset occurs when searching ROMs the temporary copy (in RAM) doesn't get deleted. When this happens, running PalmMAME Again will continue searching the ROMS. Exiting will delete the temporary module in RAM and available RAM will return to normal.

You'll need around 8MB of free RAM on the Treo 650 to run most games. I haven't been able to get any Vector games to play on the Treo 650 (Like Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.) Although, most of my favorites play really well and even support \Samples. Nice to be able to play Frogger, MS PacMan and Galaga again!
