Is there any way of reducing the volume of the annoying tones that start up when you turn the phone (unlocked GSM) on and off?

I know I can hit the mute switch but don't want to have to fiddle with that every time.

All the other system tones seem adjustable by tone and volume except that one.

    Or am I missing something?

No-one know? Do I just have to put up with it?

I saw your post earlier but didn't know how to change it. People have changed their startup/shutdown screens but not the system sound. Its probably a file in the rom.

To answer your question, no I don't think you can change it. Sorry.

    Cheers, Gungho.

I just don't like announcing to the whole plane/cinema/theatre etc that I'm just turning my (expensive) phone on or off.

Ahah! Thanks for that, aznmode. It was set for 4 (max), 2 seems about right.

    Another problem solved.
