First, install the Core Player on your Palm found here:
    http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=53&release_id=99

Go for the latest version right at the top (for PalmOS). It says unstable,
but I have yet to have a problem with it. Be sure to install all of the
    plug-ins.

Next, get DVD Decrypter: http://www.dvddecrypter.com/ install that on your
    PC.

Then get a compressor. I use Auto Gordian Knot and it works fine, and it's
free. http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?na...download&cid=1 Put that on your PC.

Now, send a DVD trough the DVDDecrypter. Be sure the Mode setting is 'IFO
I' before you start. You'll get a big VOB file and some smaller ones when
    it's done.

Open up the AutoGK, where it says "input directory" at the top, select that
big VOB file. DVD Decrypter cuts all the additional scenes, special
features, and other extras, those are on the smaller VOB's and you'll have
to view them as seperate files if you really want them.

Back to AutoGK: In select output size, click custom and put 250 MB there.
Click on Advanced settings and do 'fixed width' at 320. Check the audio
output at 'CBR'. Find an output directory and add new job. Be patient with
this software, it usually takes about as long as the movie to compress.

You'll get your 250MB file in the output directory you selected, then just
put it on a card by synching or with a card reader/writer. Reader works way
faster and they are about $20 at CompuServe. I just have a basic one, make
sure it works with the SD cards. You can also watch
the movie on your computer off the reader if you want to.

This post was made possible by ventnor1.

Hopefully it helps people wondering about the only FREE way of watching DVD's on your treo. If you know of a better FREE way (something faster than AutoGK), please tell us about it.

    I love FREE stuff.

Better grap DVD Decrypter fast. The developer was just strong-armed into terminating the project. I wonder if DVD Shrink is next?

In the "Mode" option of DVD Decrypter, select " IFO I".

Then go to Tools/Settings/IFO MODE. In the "Options / File Splitting" box, make sure to choose "None". In the "On Startup" box, make sure that "Select Main Movie PGC and Uncheck Suspect Cells" have check marks in the boxes.

Then in the "File Names" box, make sure both that the "Include PGC Number and Include Angle Number" are checked off. Then click "ok" then decrypt

Then you'll have the main movie title as one file.

While in dvd decrypter you have to go to the streaming tab and enable it everytime.

Whoops, I found out about that after the post. I wouldn't worry, there will be others. The best bet is to find someone who knows how to update the old decrypter themselves. I've heard it isn't too difficult.

Thanks also to the folks who answered the DVDDecrypter settings questions. I've never had to fiddle with it, I must be lucky.

You're welcome! I envy you 650 users. Alas....i have to wait for or hope "fingers crossed" that TMOBILE will offer the 650.

Animated movies are great for the 600.

In "step 2" of AutoGK, make sure that you've selected an audio track. e.g Audio 1.
It usually defaults to the main audio track of the dvd file.
Sometimes it defaults to "no audio".

Do what I did and get a Generic GSM Treo 650. I signed a new contract with T-Mobile. Got a small flip phone, unlocked it, and sold it on ebay. This ended up bringing the price of a Treo down to my level.

    Try it out.

It took me some time, but I found the DVD Decrypter and I made a huge (single) VOB file. Thanks to SEXybeast for the follow-on instructions.

Thanks also to TheLiveSoundGuy for directions towards finding the AutoGK files.

Even after all of these great directions, I'm still struggling to create a simple .avi to put on my SD card. I think I'm getting there but I'm not quite sure (it's running now on my other computer). This stuff is confusing for even semi-proficient technophiles like me (I'm well versed in VBA, ASP, etc.).

    Thought for the day:
Are there any enterprising young programmers out there who are interested in creating a dummy-proof application for this?

Step 1: Put DVD into DVD tray
Step 2: Click the ONE, BIG button on the application window
Step 3: Transfer resulting movie file to your SD card and play using the Core Player

    I'd pay for that application!

    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

Post-post update: Following the instructions in this thread, I got it to work perfectly. Watching DVD's on my 650 is incredible! Thanks again to all who've contributed!
