I recieved an email on Friday afternoon. Now everytime I start versamail my treo shuts off. I did a hard, soft, luke warm, cold and full resets all to no avial. When I hotsync after the reset, the problem comes back. What I would like to do is hard reset, then find and deleate my versamail datafile, so that my "problem child email" doesnt get put back on my palm. The other alternative would be to find a ROM without versamail in it.

    Anybody have any ideas?

I will give this a bump because my dad's Treo has also been having problems with resetting during Hotsync when it gets to Versamail.

    To the original poster--sorry I can't help.

    Delete the corrupt VersaMail databases

To address this issue, you can remove the corrupt databases from your smartphone. This method works if any of the databases in the instructions below have become corrupted; it may not work if other databases are corrupted.

First, download and install the third-party utility FileZ by nosleep software: Get FileZ. If given the option, do not install AppSlipRotate.prc or StatusBarLib.prc, which may be included in the FileZ download.
FileZ is a file manager that allows you to manipulate applications and databases that aren't normally visible on your palmOne device. Be careful when using FileZ, since it is a powerful utility that can delete critical files and cause your handheld behave erratically if used improperly. Follow the directions below exactly, and don't delete any additional files.

After installing FileZ, launch FileZ on your Treo smartphone.

If presented with an introductory screen, select "View and Edit Files." You may not see an introductory screen.

Tap the rightward-facing arrow next to "Internal." A list of files in your smartphone's internal memory will appear.

At the top of the list, tap on the rectangular iconin the middle column. A popup menu appears. Select Creator. The list will be re-sorted according to the creator code.

Look for any files created by asc3 or asc4. These include:
    MultiMail Disconnected
    MultiMail Attachments
    MMNotify Send
    MultiMail Messages
    MMNotify Response
    MMIDCache0
    MMIDCache1
    MMIDCache2
    MMIDCache3
    MMIDCache4
    MMIDCache5
    MMIDCache6
    MMIDCache7
    MMIDCache8

Now you'll be deleting all files created by asc3 or asc4.
Caution: Deleting these files will erase all VersaMail messages, attachments and settings stored on your Treo 650. It will not affect messages on the mail server.

Tap on each file to place a checkmark next to it
    Press Menu.
From the file menu, select Delete.
When asked to confirm, select Delete.

On your smartphone, launch VersaMail. The initial setup wizard should appear. Use the wizard to create an email account (this step is important, since it creates new uncorrupted databases to replace the ones you deleted above). You should now have a working version of VersaMail.
    Does VersaMail work without crashing?

No: Follow the steps to Rename the VersaMail folder
Yes: Your issue is resolved. You'll need to go through VersaMail setup again (info).
Yes, but the problem comes back later: Follow the steps to Rename the VersaMail folder

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Rename the VersaMail folder

If the method above didn't work, it may be because there is a corrupt database in your VersaMail folder which is transferred to your smartphone when you synchronize. Below, we show you how to rename the VersaMail folder, create a new VersaMail folder on your desktop computer.

On your Treo 650, repeat the steps above to delete the VersaMail files from your smartphone. Do not perform a HotSync operation after doing this.

On your desktop computer, locate your user folder.

In your user folder, locate the VersaMail folder. This folder contains account settings and other data.

Rename the VersaMail folder to VersaMailOld.

Back in your user folder, locate your Backup folder.

In the Backup folder, delete these files, if they are present:

    MultiMail_Attachments.PDB
    MultiMail_Messages.PDB

On your Treo 650, launch VersaMail and verify that it works properly and does not cause resets or crashes.

Perform a HotSync operation. Since you renamed the VersaMail folder, and deleted its message and attachment databases, your VersaMail account settings, messages and attachments will not be restored to your smartphone.
After the HotSync operation, a new VersaMail folder will be created on your desktop computer.

On your smartphone, launch VersaMail. The initial setup wizard should appear. Use the wizard to create an email account. You should now have a working version of VersaMail.
    Does VersaMail work without crashing?

No: Follow the steps to Delete other apps & databases with a hard reset and data restore
Yes: Your issue is resolved. You'll need to go through VersaMail setup again (info).

    Bump

followed all the instructions & I'm still getting resets - this is a recent thing for me - the only app I installed recently is Snap (screenshots) but I don't really see how that could be interfering... I'm pulling it anyway to see if it is what's conflicting.

I had all sorts of trouble with the steaming pile of dung that is Versamail. I bought ChatterMail and never looked back. Best email program out there.
