I have had a 600 for close to a year and the 650 just came up in my location. But so did the audiovox 6600.

I like the add ons the 650 provides, but the memory the 6600 provides is impressive to me. Camera capabilities are crucial since I do use it for my taking pics of equipment I work on. I am the only I.T. pro in my region and I use it alot to send back info to my corporate office, plus taking pics of my kid. I see that both models now do video which is an added bonus.

I use to have a ppc before my 600 and I loved it, but like most, it was cumbersome carrying both a pda and cell.

Well any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Greg

well it depends on what you need and want.

To me, it sounds like you are a data oriented guy, with less reliance on voice. If so, I think that the 6600 is a great choice for you - you have wifi, gprs, bluetooth, and a LARGE screen to view your photos and whatever else you have. I even read an article that said that the sx66/6600 was actually faster at downloading graphic intensive sites than the edge-capable treo 650.

For voice, I would say that both are kind of even - speaker quality isn't the best on the treo, and not superb on the sx66/6600. But using it as a phone makes all the difference here - it is very easy to call someone using one hand, where it seems like you have to use both hands to call someone on the PPC. I personally like windows mobile OS better, but love the integration of the treo 650, which is why i chose it. Whichever one you do pick, you can't lose with these options. Good luck.

The treo has a much better screen (resolution/sharpness speaking) and camera. I found the 6600 camera worthless. (Slightly better than the 600) If the camera is a real concern than I would go with the treo.

With that said, the 6600 is much faster at rendoring web pages and is a real winner on the PDA side of things. Multitasking makes life much easier as well. Activesync is another big winner over hotsync.

I feel that the treo is superior as an overall integrated device however, and has much better phone functionality. The treo also has a much better battery. If you were going to use the 6600 a lot on the road you would need to get a high capacity battery which isn't cheap.

    Good luck

Thanks for the help guys! I really want to make the right decision.

Another thing, will the 650 work in my current 600 cradle, car charger, home charger, etc.?? Just wondering if I would have to replace all that stuff if need be.

    Thanks,

I don't think it works with the 600 car cradle because the bottom is different from the 600. I would go for the 650 and forget about audiovox.

Is the 6600 available in GSM? I hadn't seen that.

Very available. Just branded with different names. PDA2k, SX66, etc, etc.

And no, the 650 is not backwards compatible with 600 accessories.

Verizon's version is either "XS6600", "XV6600", or something close to that. My boss has the 6600 with Sprint, and I have the Treo with Sprint. In my opinion, the Treo has a better display, better phone, and is lighter. Also, the keyboard on the 6600 is tough for me to use.

One other thing... would anyone think that the sliding mechanism of the 6600 would wear out over time, so that the keyboard slides out whenever it wants? Seems to me like that would happen.

ActiveSync is definitely much better than HotSync.

    My 2 cents...
