    Carrier: Sprint
    Hardware: Treo 650
    Software:
    Sprint 1.08 ROM
    Adobe Reader
    Pocket Tunes Deluxe
    FileZ
    Patience (Card Game)
    Goodlink 4

For the last week Ive been experiencing resets related to 'MMNotify'. They begin around 2am and last through 10am. Each time the error message is the same, as reported by ##377#:

    MMNotify:
    MemoryMgr.c,
    Line:3732, NULL handle

I followed the procedures to remove the VersaMail databases yesterday, but am still getting resets this morning. While I havent gone so far as to do a custom ROM, I should note Im not using VersaMail at all. GoodLink handles all of my email traffic.

My searches at Treocentral have shown a strong link between these sorts of crashes and VersaMail, but Im at a loss about why it would be causing them if Im not even using it.

I'll perform a hard reset this morning, but Im open to any thoughts or suggestions about what's going on.

    No one, eh?

I performed the hard reset this morning and will report back about resets throughout the day or tomorrow morning.

I have been having the exact same problem. If I figure it I, I will let you know.

Ive narrowed this down to the Goodlink software. Last night the phone reset at 9:40pm, citing the same culprit (MMNotify). I didnt reactivate Goodlink until this morning, and within a few minutes it reset again. This repeated three times, including just now.

I'll also create a new post in the software forum and see if it draws any Goodlink attention.

I may have spoken too soon...this might be caused by the Sprint PCS Vision connection. My phone uses so little third party applications, the first thing I do after a reset is reinitialize Goodlink, which causes a reconnect to the Sprint PCS Vision network.

Just now after it reset I didnt start Goodlink, but did connect to the web and experienced another reset within a few moments.

What's even more crazy is that Im only experiencing this in the late evening and early morning. During the day the connection is rock solid.

Any thoughts with this new detail?

I am having the exact same problem. I also use Goodlink w/sprint BUT also believe it (goodlink) is not the culprit. I think you hit on to something when you noticed the web connect connection. I had a reset this morning and it was right after 'treoalarm' made a scheduled connect online to update the weather. The only reason it would seem like Goodlink is the problem is because of the connection it needs.

Can someone please tell us what 'mmnotify' does and how it functions?

My device issues have spiraled since my last posting. The resets upon an Internet connection started Friday night and didnt stop Saturday morning. I performed a hard reset and, instead of restoring from a sync, inserted the SD card with the Goodlink backup and installed GL only.

Internet connectivity still seems to be the cause of the problems, but the error messages are all over the map: from MMNotify to one I witnessed within GL with a full drive path (c:\palm\directory1\directory2\filename.name).

Sprint is ordering me a new 650. What's the best way to start from scratch? Insert the SD card and install GL on the new device? Im all ears about how to remedy this.

I narrowed this down to versamail. It got so the ph was resetting every 20-30 minutes w/o respite. I tried hard resetting etc etc. But the problem always came back almost immediately.

Finally. I just downloaded a custom rom from the shadowmite site, without versamail. Installed it, al;ong with snapper. Everything works great now.

My belief is somehow the versamail portion of the rom got corrupted.

Shadowmite's site says I have to have an SD card reader for the computer before being able to use his custom ROMs. I assume he's not referring to the phone itself and I need an additional piece of hardware?

Sprint replaced my 650 with another (albeit reconditioned) one. Ive done an OTA install of GoodLink version 4.0.3.6 and for the last 2 days its been rock solid.

The more I think about it the more I realize I didnt use any of my other third party applications, just the phone, GoodLink, and occassionally PocketTunes Deluxe. I'll stay away from installing too much just yet to see if that increases stability of the device.

I am having the same early morning reset problems caused by MMNotify on Sprint. I do not have Goodlink, so you can rule that out. I have tried to hard reset and reboot from sd card to no avail. Lockline will be send me a replacement early next week.

My question for salvatore and others: when you recieved your replacement, how did u restore? By SD card? By hotsync?

Before reading your post I was afraid this may be a software problem but if you are having the exact same problems with different software, i am begining to think this is a ROM issue.

Since all of my contacts, email, and calendar information is available via GoodLink, I have not performed a hotsync of the new device. After the OTA install of GL, Im 90% back where I was on the old device.

If I end up missing Pocket Tunes enough I'll reinstall it to the device, but for now Im virgin except for GL. If/When I do another hotsync Im recreating my user profile so as not to risk a piece of the old software causing the corruption.

I had the same problem on my original 650. It would happen every morning at 8:00 when Versamail would autosync for the first time each day. It was like clockwork. I took it to Sprint to be diagnosed and of course they had no idea and replaced it with a new unit. It does not happen on my new 650, although I am now having other Versamail issues. But, it did happen on my old 650 which had no 3rd party software installed at the time so you can rule out Good and anything else and focus on Versamail. Good Luck.
