    Hi,

I have seen a lot of questions here about how to play movies (*.avi, *.mpg, divx etc) on a palm device. The most simple and free solution is this:

    Download PocketDivXencoder from here: http://divx.ppccool.com/
This easy to use program can decode allmost every videofile! And it can rip movies directly from a DVD, no need to convert or use another program!

The movies created by PocketDivXencoder can be viewed on your palm by the excellent Betaplayer which can be found here: http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/

    Good luck

The site says that it will work with MMplayer...have you tried that? How does it work?

It is great! So easy and fast! The best program I've when it comes to adjusting the aspect ratio and size of the .avi file.

You should click on "Mirror 1" or "Mirror 2", not the links. The links will take you to the French hosting sites.

When you first load the program, it asks what type of device you are using. Since there isn't a choice for Treo's...what did you choose? ...or doesn't it matter?

It doesn't matter as that is for the aspect ratio, which you can easily change. But I chose PDA which gives the setting 320x320. The two films I converted for the Treo were in aspect ratio 1.85:1 - setting for the Treo 320 x 173, and 2.35:1 - setting for the Treo - 320x138. As I don't have the program open right now I'm not 100% sure but I think you changed the aspect ratio in "Preview".

    Hope this was helpful.

I'm obviously not a video expert, but could someone please help me? When I go to encode to AVI, all I get is a 128Kb file that doesn't even play. It seems no matter what options I select, the encoding finishes in like 3 seconds. Is there a step I'm missing? I went to the website and did not see any help on the proper steps to take.

With the first film I decoded it straight from the dvd. For some reason there was only one .vob-file on the dvd-disc.

The second film consisted of six .vob-files on the dvd, so I converted them to one vob-file on my hard disc using DVD Decrypter.

DVD Decrypter is also a free program and you can download it from http://www.dvddecrypter.com/.

A tip: in DVD Decrypter you can chose "Select main movie" in the "Edit" menu. I found that to be a great tool as I have absolutely no clue what/which .vob file is what...

Good luck! Keep me posted - keeping my fingers crossed!

Same thing happened to me when I tried to convert the dvd with lots and lots and lots of .vob-files on it and I wasn't sure what was what... That's when used DVD Decrypter. As you can see in my post just above this one, you have the function "Select main movie" in the "Edit" menu.

    Good luck to you too!

Ok, I just used the DVD Decrypter and selected Use Main Movie, but it still came out to 6 different .vob files. I thought it would make it one .vob file? Am I missing a step?

In the "Mode" option of DVD Decrypter, select " IFO I".

Then go to Tools/Settings/IFO MODE. In the "Options / File Splitting" box, make sure to choose "None". In the "On Startup" box, make sure that "Select Main Movie PGC and Uncheck Suspect Cells" have check marks in the boxes.

Then in the "File Names" box, make sure both that the "Include PGC Number and Include Angle Number" are checked off. Then click "ok" then decrypt

Then you'll have the main movie title as one file.
