What is the best software for students? I would like software to help me keep track of due dates for homework or even software to help study for tests.

4.0Student is by FAR the best application out there. I used it for four years through college and had much success with it. It is DEFINITELY worth the price. I used the online part because you're able to type in your entire syllabus for the semester or archive previous semesters. This is your program. Check out DueYesterday too. I don't think they compare much. I think Due Yesterday is free though if price is a hurdle.

For my dollar, I'd go with Due Yesterday.

From the same folks that bring us the venerable FileZ File Management Utility, Due yesterday ahs both a desktop and palm version which sync together.

on a sort of related note, does anyone know of anygood teacher programs out there? Right now, the only one that I use is Making the Grade for Palm OS along with the desktop version. This makes things so much bettter. But if you guys have anything else you use. Maybe I should ask in another thread.

Clarence, I too am a big fan of DY, but you shouldn't trash other software without a review. Why don't you like 4.0Student? Gives us some details, man!

One thing/bug about DY: I once put an alarm on every class for one course. Since that time, NONE of the DY alarms work. I plan to fresh-install after this semester to clean the problem. Otherwise, beautiful freeware.

Agendus Professional.. handsdown. I go to a private university where im constantly in contact with my professors and Agendus makes it so easy to set up meetings, tasks, memo's etc. You can set alarms any time in advance for these entries and you can also allow certain meetings and assignments to "roll-over" until you get it done. Theres just way too many good things to say about Agendus for me to type... just download the trial and see for yourself.

I know the application isnt specifically designed for students but it does so much to organize your life that I cant find a more suitable student organizer.

4.0Student is MUCH more powerful than Due Yesterday. I understand the fact that people like to support open source software. I myself use Firefox. But the fact remains that quality software cost money to develop. It's only fair to the programmer to be allowed to charge for their programs. 3/4 of the programs on my Treo cost me money. But for the functionality they provide, I find that it's worth the cost. The same applies to 4.0Student.

Download the trial. Check out the grading system. Drops, weights, types. Much more powerful than DY. And the online part is great. I thought... "Why would I need to have this stuff online. I'm always gonna be near my desktop." Well... I was wrong. Say you're at the library doing work... no desktop. My teacher would update the syllabus and I'd update it on the fly either on my Palm m515 (at the time... *sigh* the good ol' days of Palm before palmOne) or on the internet. It was great. I stand by this piece of software. It was the first piece of software I recommended to my little sister when she got her Palm.

I wish I went to your university! Half my professors hate using Blackboard, all except one knows how to use its other features, most of them only put the syllabus in there and nothing else, and one professor hadn't even updated his syllabus! One professor was surprised that PDAs could access the Internet!

Point is, at my uni there is no use for a more feature-rich app than DY. Sad but true.

it's not that I'm against pay apps, evertime someone ask a question about apps for certain functions someone shoves a over priced solution their way.

think TC is full of developers or hired hands, who are trying to push their apps regardless of the customers real need.

there are free or reasonable price apps out there.

for whatI seen Due Yesterday is better the 4.0 student. 4.0 looks like a due yesterday rip off with imbedded online features to lock into there other services.

    Just download due yesterday.

So you have absolutely no experience with 4.0Student? For your information, Handmark purchased 4.0Student from the original developer, from whom I bought the software almost 6 years ago. As for 4.0Student being a Due Yesterday rip-off.... you need to get your facts straight. It's the other way around. 4.0Student has more features which are implemented in a more usable fashion IMO. If you don't want to spend money, download Due Yesterday. If you like 4.0Student better, purchase it. But to say 4.0Student is overpriced just because it's not free is childish. If you're so sure Due Yesterday is more capable, why don't you post a comparison of the two. I think once you actually compare the features of the two products, you might be surprised.

Yes I do have experience with 4.0Student. The feature of Due yesterday, and 4.0Student are Very Very Similiar. In A competition base society, price rules, and free is alway better.

there is no need for futher discussion. The poster has already download Due yesterday, and like thousands of other palm users, he is satisfied.

Everytime some post a suggestion about a freeware alternate, someone pops up out of the blue, arguing software dev need to be compensated blah blah blah. Well people decide to donate their own free time to create free software.

Price wins all the time. A little more "unused" features, and twenty dollars saved. Which one will you choose. Plus Due yestday is open source, you can add any extra featuresz you wants.
