i just brought a treo 600 and i was wondering what are the programs that i just have to buy or download.

i wanna check email (POP email, like gmail, aol, and school email)
listen to music (maybe watch videos)
and of course use the phone

also are there any must have accessories, such as a holster etc. etc.

Im running a Mac powerbook (panther) probably going to switch to Tiger on friday.

but my girlfriend has a windows computer thats practically mine as well.

so what do you guys recommend.

there are several threads that will answer this question in detail. There is even one that polled many users and gave the results of the poll. Just search a little in the threads that should help. Good luck.

They are several threads here on the forum re. best, top, most used, must have, etc... use the button up above (search) for searching this fourm you may also want to try palmgear and the other sites that carry palm os software. "the programs you have to buy?" do lots of reading here on the forum, and try before you buy.

There are few things that bother people more than when someone is too lazy to do their own research...

DO A SEARCH!!! Don't expect people to do the work for you.

i have been doing my resarch for almost a week.
whats the point of a treo forum if a basic question cant be answered.

ive put in "best programs", "must have programs", "essential programs" etc. etc.

and i just end up getting random threads. but whatever, i wont bother you guys anymore, and ill delete my account. its cool.

    later.

Classic response. Blame other people for your shortcomings. Don't blame the forum because you're too lazy to look something up. Most forum members are willing to answer legit questions. Here's an answer to one question that you obviously didn't take the time to look up.

Pocket-Tunes works JUST FINE ON A MAC! Read the download page. A week my ****....

Typical unhelpful response of many people here. What's the big deal with searches.........sometimes we may want a fresh opinion, or is that discouraged here too

Since this is turning into a rant session, I want to play too! Befor it gets locked...

I'm gonna side with the frustrated members. These are not posts looking for 'fresh ideas'. So many of the posts here and on other forums are the same damn thing - I want Ringtones NOW, what are the best programs, how do you sync, how do I get free wap (don't get me started on this one
). Dud-ettes, you just spent $300-400 on a friggin' phone/toy and you didn't read the manual? And if you didn't pay for it, shame on whomever gave it to you, 'cause they should have told you how to use it.

Part of the trouble is that the information for common questions are not pooled together on this site. Look at me signature, and you'll see a link for a Treo knowledgebase. It should have answers to the most common stuff, and if it doesn't tell the organizers and they'll put it in. Give this link to noobies. I'm gonna start doing that today, instead of doing searches for them.

But the main problem is with the postors. (posters?) Either they don't know how to use the search, or are too lazy to do so. I've read posts where users say in-effect, "f**k u, I'm not gonna search so I'm posting".

If even one postor said, I don't know how to search, we would have not only told them how, but would have also probably answered their initial question, AND been nice about. But I gotta go with akula34 - there ain't no way that NAPO spent a week searching, on several forums, and not found the answer. Either English is not his/her native language, s/he don't know how to use the search, or - dare I say it? - s/he's lazy.

Forums are not chat sessions. They are knowledge bases. The more relevant info put into them, better the value. But the more posts put into it, the longer we have to weed thru long search results to get relevant info. If I see one more, Where can I get free ringtones post...

NAPO, don't feel chased away by these rants. It's not personal; it's pent-up frustration, and you're the person who got the unlucky number today. But learn by what's been written here, and pass it on to the newbs who will post behind you with the exact same questions.

def. i totally understand the frustration, ive spent a lot of time on other boards: mostly music. and this newbie stuff is commonplace. but its seen as more of a rite of passage, like "oh here we go again." but before you know it, the newbie is gonna be answering questions with the best of them, so i feel that 1. ignore it and let the post drop or 2. answer the question as succintly as you can and keep it movin.

thanks to all those that did help this newb out. remember all of yall were newbies at one point or another.

and just to close out another point, i have been searching for close to a week, but the answers and information was conflicting (they would all start debating which email client was better etc. etc.). somebody pointed me to this site, the supposed "mecca" for treo info, and i decided to play my hand.

and english is my native language, its actually my major here at cornell university.
