    Hi:

just know that C20 Co Ltd, a Singapore PalmOne distributer and customer service provider, is already offering version 1.21 firmware update for Palmone branded GSM Treo650s.

however the staff of c20 says it's a "test version" and Palmone will release their update officially soon.

please read more post on Singapore Palm User Group here:

    Ditto that.

If you are successful, post results plus ...

    - Phone type, branded, unlocked, etc
    - f/w and software versions you had before the upgrade
    - service provider
    - method of upgrade you performed, SD vs. Sync
    - steps you took to perform the upgrade

I have a Treo 650 that is physically branded on the outside by Cingular, but is unlocked and running unbranded software.

    f/w 1.15
    s/w Treo650-1.06.ROW

I am going to try the upgrade later this afternoon using the SD method.

    ok, here is the link:

    FW1.21

    Note before upgrade to FW1.21:
    1. backup your data, hotsync to pc or to your SD card.
    2. hard reset your treo.
    3. after initial setup, hotsync to pc using NEW hotsync name. must use a new hotsync name. cannot use existing name for the upgrade.
    4. unzip the downloaded file to a temp folder.
    5. select all files to install.
    6. activate hotsync.
    7. after hotsync completed, upgrade process will start automatically.
    8. do not reset your unit during upgrading process. if not, you may need to buy a new treo.
    9. just following instruction on screen.
    10. after upgrade completed, complete the initial setup process.
    11. if after upgrade completed and your treo does not go thru the normal initial setup process, please hard reset your unit.
    12. either hotsync back your data (now using your existing hotsync name) or restore from your SD card.
    13. thal's all.

    enjoy!!
btw, try it on your own risk!!

one more thing, don't copy to SD and then from SD to RAM. it won't work!

I'm sure you meant Firmware 1.21 not 1.12.
If not, then you took a step backwards.

Does the fix for NVFS memory issues happen in the Firmware (ver 1.21 in this case), or ROM (1.06 in this case)?

Sprint ROM update, which fixed the NVFS storage issues, was to ROM 1.08.

How is Firmware update to 1.21 increasing available memory?

It wasn't to "rom 1.08" It's SW 1.08. Let's not get software and FW confused.

The sprint updater also upddated the os to garnet 5.4.7

I believe this update does the same for gsm phones.

    Go to application/menu/info/version

I have just successfully upgraded from my custom ROM of 1.15/1.06-ROW to this 1.21 version. As I've put some programs into the custom ROM so I reinstalled them to the RAM before flashing to 1.21 otherwise those programs will vanish because they'd be no longer in the new ROM. Before the flash, available RAM was around 8MB. After flashing to 1.21 and restored the system with BackupMan, I got 13MB+ free! My PhonecallDB file was taking over 600KB before but now it only takes 93KB. The Snapper message files are also more "compact" now. With this improvements in NVFS I'd say I don't really need to do a custom ROM now. Well maybe I'll still make one once PalmOne officially releases this update.

It's past midnight now so I'll wait till the morning to test if there's anything improved with the phone module.
