    Is this for any GSM Treo 650? I have a locked AT&T Wireless Treo 650, will it work for mine?

    Success! I used the cable method...
    Firmware: 01.21
    Software: Treo650-1.06/5050/0'

    Memory went from 5.5M to 12.3M

    Speakerphone seems louder; phone speaker may be...haven't tried the BT headphone yet.

    I was hoping that this might give me the ability to silence the ring by tapping the volume rocker - but it doesn't.

    I'm happy just to have the extra memory.

    This was my first restore with BBVFS on my 650 - perfectly smooth, all data restored.

    Anyone try it yet with a locked to service phone, ie. Cingular locked, ATT locked, etc. Seems like everyone here has the ROW version to start with. I am interested in if a locked phone say with Cingular needs to use the token writer to change something or will it just overwrite?

    let us know

    How are you guys removing (palmone) apps (like VersaMail) and replacing with new ones (like SnapperMail) when you upgrade to 1.21?

    I have not done ... and any clear specifics/details would be most grateful

    Does this update increase handset earpiece volume for you? I'm especially interested in your results b/c I have a cingular 650 as well.

    thanks,
    John

    It did DEFINITELY increase the speakerphone volume, the earpiece is a bit better but still worse then on my T600

    Is Versamail still the same version as before on this new ROM upgrade?

    Treo 650 - GSM Unlocked
    Update Method: Hotsync

    Before Update:
    Firmware: 01.14
    Software: Treo650-1.06.ROW
    Hardware: A
    PALM OS Garnet v.5.4.5
    Free Memory Available 5.1M
    PhoneCallDB = 358K

    Volume Level:
    Ringer = Good
    Speakerphone = Useless
    Earpeace = Barely Passable
    BT Headphone = Passable

    After Update:
    Firmware: 01.21
    Software: Treo650-1.06/5050/0'
    Hardware: A
    PALM OS Garnet v.5.4.7
    Free Memory Available 11.9M
    PhoneCallDB = 52K

    Volume Level:
    Ringer = Good
    Speakerphone = Useless
    Earpeace = Barely Passable
    BT Headphone = Passable

    Post Update Observations:
    1. Huge gain in free memory.
    2. No improvement in Speakerphone/Earpeace/BT Headphone Volume level.
    3. Immediately upon switching on phone, while it searches for network, the Treo 650 sort of hangs for a little while and does not respond to any buttons or via touch screen.

    PS: It seems the 'The whole system responds very slowly or does not respond at all until the GSM network is detected completely.' problem occurs at other times also. Today I took out the phone from my pocket to do something and it would not respond to any button or via touch screen for a little while, but then everything became normal. My guess is the phone must have gone into a network search and thus the problem. This is surely a bug with firmware 1.21, since it was not there before the update.

    I don't know what it was before (I use Snappermail), but it says v3.0C, now.

    I upgraded to 1.21 from 1.15 on my Unlocked GSM.

    I went from approximately 1.3-1.5M free to 5.5Megs. This is huge for me as Goodlink alone takes up a solid 8 megs and my contacts and calendar took up a ton of space.

    I can also use Balancelog again. Only takes up 1.5megs versus over 5 megs before.

    The speakerphone is a LOT louder but still has the background hissing. The earpiece is either the same or slightly louder. Haven't tried the Bluetooth headset yet, but I've never had any problems with it as I use the new Treo 650 Bluetooth Headset (the one that's out of stock at Treocentral for $69.95 - I picked one up at Ingram Micro in Canada).

    Also, for those in Canada, I'm on Fido in the Greater Toronto area.

    No resets so far (was getting 4-5/day before).

    Also, everyone be very careful with the other upgrade (not the 1.21 from Singapore but the 1.15/1.06 upgrade). I followed the instructions to the letter last week, and never got it to work successfully. I only wanted to do it to customize the ROM since I already had 1.15/1.06 from Palm. After trying to flash the 1.15 firmware and never getting it to complete, I could not hard reset nor could I zero out reset). I finally managed to hard reset earlier today after trying about 10 times.

    This one (so far, cross my fingers) looks like a keeper. (If only there was 64 megs of memory. going from a T3 to the 650 is killing me memory wise, but the overall benefits, bugs and all, far outweigh the advantages). It's already paid for itself (via Goodlink software), many, many, many times over.

    Oh, one last thing. before using backupman, you still need to soft reset since it gives out of memory errors (but that could be due to me only having 1-1.4 megs left (after re-installing programs I had to leave out before).

    Oh, and looks like Palm still hasn't fixed the issue with the camera saving the images to the handheld rather than SD card. Even after you change the default to the SD card, a soft reset wipes out those settings.

    I upgraded to 1.21 from 1.15 with SD card.

    Good:
    Free memory increased from 8.9M to 13.7M.

    Bad:
    Phone stops at startup splash screen for long time when starting up. (slow?) The whole system responses very slow until the GSM network is detected completely.

    It seems these two comments are already confirmed by others.

    Software 1.05-ROW

    I upgraded today from 1.15 to 1.21.
    My phone is a Cingular branded 650, but was unlocked and running unbranded f/w.

    After the upgrade, the speaker is louder. The earpiece appears a little louder, but it's nothing major. The one thing that I noticed is that my earpiece hissing noise is gone. This was the major gripe I had originally. When I had the earpiece volume set to max, there used to be a very loud hissing noise.

    Again, does your phone have to be unlocked to successfully load this update? Has anyone tried a locked Cingular or AT&T Treo?

    I just did it w/ a cingular 650 using the sd card method. DUN enabled, went from 8.4 mb free to 13.9 or something. The intermittent crash issue appears to have been fixed. The backlight turning off at random issue is also fixed. Speaker phone now usable.
