The flashing snowflake means that a user here named TundyCentral is trying to tell you something. He usually does this in morse code. Watch the flashing very carefully and let us know what he tells you.

    Hello,

I am a new 650 user, and I am seeing a flashing icon that I am unable
to determine its origin or purpose.

It is in the far top left of the screen, covering up the 'Spr'
    in the Sprint logo.
It shows up when in any mode (phone, app, web, email, etc)
It is a dark green square with an 8-pointed white star in it.
It flashes on a 2 second cycle.

I have searched the users manual with no success.

Can anyone out there inform me as to the origin or purpose
    of this flashing icon?

    Thanks alot.

top left corner flashing star means you have alerts waiting for you.

Click it to open up the dialog box that explains what alerts you missed and check them off to acknoledge that you read them and the star will dissapear.

Click it and it should show you the notifications that you have missed.

The icon is an alert reminder. If you tap on it with your stylus, it will tell you what the alert is for (i.e., new SMS, due task, missed call, etc.).

Or simply press and hold the five way center button.
That will bring up your alerts screen.
Clear the alerts screen and the asterik will stop flashing.

Hey there: I'm still pretty new to my 650, which I love.

But there's a little star icon that blinks in the very uppermost left corner, and I don't know what it is. I skimmed all the way through the manual and couldn't find it. I don't have any idea what it's associated with, though I assume it's voicemail or messages or something, I just don't know what. Thanks for your help!

It means you have an alert.

Hold down the center button on your 5-way to see what it is.

If you tap on it, it will show you have a missed call.

It's a simulated Sun Rise. It's telling you it's time to wakeup.

    Read the manual

Other than Dutch's comment, I don't think this was meant to be funny...

Ok, Christinac130 clued me in, on first read this looks to just be one heck of a funny running joke, but I guess the moderaters get the comedic credit even if it was unintentional. I still laughed so hard I accidentaly spit on my computer screen

Just to let you know, there was at least over 10 different threads with different titles in the 650 forum that I combined. Another set in the 600 forum that I merged as well which has a .prc in it (maybe untested for 650 hence I left it there).

It does look funny after the merging.

In your case the Treo is giving a weather alert for severe snowfall in your area. If you see a number in your display, that will indicate the accumulation amounts in inches (or centimeters on Orange phones)

My 650 turns on the asterisk in the upper left corner of the screen to warn me that I have a email or a message, and then after I retrieve said message or whatever the asterisk stays and won't go away unless I reset. Any ideas?? Thanks

You might want to run it under some water to wash it out.

no really hold the center button for 2-3 secs. then hit clear all.
