On some of the contacts, does it have a little SIM card picture beside the contact? If so, you can go into your Contact Preferences, and UNcheck "Show SIM phonebook". If you added your old contacts on an old phone, they were saved to the SIM card, and then when you put it in the Treo, it imported them in. Hiding the SIM phonebook allows you to keep them on the SIM but you don't have to see them.

If there isn't a SIM card picture beside them, I think there's a utility that can remove duplicates. Here's a link to one: http://www.stevenscreek.com/palm/undupe.html

If you set "delete duplicates" on the desktop in preferences menu, it will remove them. I had duplicates of all my contacts and calendar events. This took care of it.

I'm guessing from that response that you don't have a SIM card icon beside the duplicate contacts.

Again, look and see if this software might work for you:

    That would be a "note".

In preferences, you can set if you want to show the SIM phonebook or not. Otherwise, what you have listed in your contacts list (entered either on the device or through the desktop application synched) is a standard Palm DB, and should be able to be removed from your Treo with this method.

    BTW dcsipe, thanks.

I am having this problem, too. It seems that there is a bug in the contacts application when you chose to display your SIM Phonebook. When the phone list is set to display for "all" and you have selected to display your SIM Phonebook, your contact list seems to double up.

Try to uncheck the Show SIM Phonebook under :menu: > Options > Preference. Check your list again.

I figured out one way that fixed the problem for me. I was having duplicate contacts as well each time I synced with my palm desktop. What I did was open my palm desktop application on my computer, and manually delete all duplicates (and triplicates). Then I CLOSED the palm desktop application and hotsynced from the treo. After I finished syncing, I checked my treo, and bingo, problem solved!
