Treo 650 wifi driver for PalmOne SD Wifi Card issue is discussed in the following thread:
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=64490

but that thread got too long and we have a new issue here, "Wifi on GSM Treo 650"

First, the best wifi driver for Treo 650 with Palmone SD Wifi card is at the following location:
    thread:
    http://shadowmite.com/forum/viewtopi...ghlight=driver
    file:
    http://shadowmite.com/WiFi%20650.prc

This file, when installed on a SPRINT (CDMA not GSM) Treo 650, enables Wifi card to work, but is said that you have to HARD reset to use SPRINT data service (like GPRS on GSM) AGAIN.

When we tried this installation on GSM Treo 650, we encountered reset loops going to a hard reset in the end.
Then the 1.15 firmware for unlocked GSM Treo 650 came...

I tried the above wifi driver with new firmware on my GSM Treo 650.
The following thread pages are my experiences with this new firmware:

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...&page=63&pp=20
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...&page=64&pp=20

    especially these posts:
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...postcount=1252
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...postcount=1258
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...postcount=1263

Actually, P1 wifi SD card works on GSM Treo 650 with a workaround. (will explain in following posts)
But, now we have a new problem:
Wifi connects physically and establishes IP connection, even Verichat works over wifi, but no other internet software was successfull.
    (will explain in following posts)

    *PS:
please don't post to this thread if you don't have anything to add, or ask related to the topic. (especially post about GSM Treo 650 , NOT SPRINT)
Long threads get too hard to be read !!!

    Wifi Files

I created a directory on my SD memory card including all needed files for Wifi to work.
I didn't add the Mergic VPN files into that directory because I don't need VPN.
Also I removed the language files other than _enUS_ so it doesn't take up too much space.
When I want wifi I warm reset the device and copy the files in that directory to RAM.

When I want to use GPRS, I warm reset the device again and remove the installed wifi files with Inwatch Uninstaller. I could also remove them manually one by one.

** when wifi is connected, turning bluetooth on makes a soft reset !
** gprs can not be used when wifi files are installed. (actually "Fake Net Library")

if you don't want to remove all files, you can just remove "Fake Net Library" and it's language overlay (enUS) in warm reset state, for GPRS to work.

    ***
if you want you can use the "Wifi 650.prc" from Shadowmite.
I didn't add anything new. I just use the files within Shadowmite's patch and use warm reset for uninstalling the driver.

First you must upgrade to 1.15 GSM firmware.

If you are using the original Shadowmite's installation file, the phone must be up (I mean connected to the GSM carrier) for the install to finish successfully.
You still may need to install two times (having a soft reset between two installations).
And you'll have some temporary files left on your device after the installation. So I advise using an uninstaller like Inwatch.

Now my wifi connection is established but I can't get on to internet with the following setup:

I set up an adhoc network between my laptop and Treo 650. Laptop is connected to internet with ADSL and this connection is shared to Wireless LAN (Windows XP)

I can ping the Treo from my Laptop but I can't ping the Laptop from Treo. Verichat can connect but Blazer, Snappermail can not connect. Also I can't update weather with Agendus or TreoAlarm.

This is interesting. Wifi works, but there is a problem with IP connection.
In fact IP connection works, because I can ping the Treo from Laptop and Verichat connects. ???

I explained this problem on Shadowmite's forum at following thread:
    http://shadowmite.com/forum/viewtopi...434&highlight=

I hope to receive a reply from Shadowmite (or other pros) who understands how Treo uses Network connections.

Questions to wifi users with Sprint or GSM Treo 650:
1- Can anyone (with GSM Treo 650) try it with an access-point network instead of adhoc network ?
2- Has anyone (with GSM or SPRINT Treo) succeeded in internet sharing to adhoc wifi network ?

    What I can't understand:
    I can't understand this:
1- How can Verichat connect if there is no network connectivity ?
2- Why can't I ping the laptop from Treo, when laptop can ping Treo ?
(My laptop has Windows XP Pro SP2 and internet firewall is disabled on the wireless interface. But it seems enabled from the security center)

I'm open to any ideas. Please share your ideas with me.

OK, dumb question - do I just need your WiFiles folder, or do I still need to install the Shadowmite package from the first post also?
  5. #5
    Also, another question:

What do you think we [that have other Firmware] could do to get 1.15. Any ideas?

    Thx in advance,
    Simon

Firmware 1.15 is found on this form with name PALM.zip
Please search before asking these type of questions...
And please don't ask questions that have no direct relation to the solution of Wifi on GSM Treo 650. (instead you may use PM)

As I've already explained, my files are only files extracted from Shadowmite's driver. If you use them you don't need the install file... But they are only for English language PalmOS.

are you pinging a name or a ip address from the treo to the laptop?
sounds as if verichat is going straight to a IP address and DNS is not working...

When you ping your Treo from the laptop, can you see the IP address? Do you get the same IP address when you look it up in on your Treo?

    Just a thought.

    good point...
but that's not the case; I've tried both with name and IP address. Treo can't ping the DNS also.

Main problem is, Treo can't ping its gateway (laptop). I can't understand how it connects to Verichat. (I even took out the SIM card to be sure that it's not using GPRS)

I don't know how Verichat connects. Maybe this is a 2 way communication problem. all non-working protocols (http, pop3...) are TCP. If Verichat is using UDP, then that may be the problem.

Yes. I ping the same IP address that I set on Treo. There's no other IP address on this adhoc network.

Hey Mods, can this thread be made sticky and remove the original WiFi thread from the "sticky list"?

You might have problem with your shared DSL connection configuration on your Laptop. If your laptop has bluetooth, you could check IP connectivity with BT before

I tried the same with BT. it works...
I can't ping the laptop from Treo. When I try that, the continious ping from laptop gets cut (request timed out)

    nobody else tried ?

Has anyone found a hack to make this work on a Treo? Maybe something like the PalmOne Wi-Fi driver?

    http://www.sandisk.com/retail/256mb-wifi-sd.asp

It states PPC as a requirement, but also says it will work on any SDIO enabled PDA.

Not yet. Have you seen this thread?

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=81523

Its for the Palm card, but you can see that getting WiFi on the 650 is a non-starter. Its worst for any other card.

You may have tried this thread already. (http://discussion.treocentral.com/tc...t+blazer+proxy). It's titled Reverse Dun Works. They are using bluetooth to connect through pc to broadband and are having simular problems connecting to the internet. Some are using other web programs (Webviewer, etc.) and also shareware proxy to get connected. (example: installed AllegroSurf (shareware proxy server) on my Windows PC and bound it to the bluetooth IP address of the computer. I then set my proxy server on the Treo to that IP and can use Blazer that way.) If I had a GSM treo I'd help.

    Good luck

Thanks. I was reading that thread earlier. I'm hoping someone can resolve this, or Palm or SanDisk actually releases a viable driver, but if not Wi-fi is only a want for me, not that important.

Please do not make unnecessary posts on this thread. I2ve requested this in my first post. I am trying to build a clean thread about Wifi on GSM Treo 650. Any unnecessary posts make this thread longer, which prevents people reading entire thread !

instead of making unnecessary posts let's focus on following questions:

1- Can anyone (with GSM Treo 650) try it with an access-point network instead of adhoc network ?
2- Has anyone (with GSM or SPRINT Treo) succeeded in internet sharing to adhoc wifi network ?
