    Marc,

I've been having sporadic problems with Chatter since the Sprint firmware update. I don't know if it's related to that, or just coincidental with the timing since I did the hard reset and rebuilt from a backup.

Anyway, Chatter has developed this habit of not recovering after a soft reset. The initial issue is tough to isolate, but usually stems from an initial random soft reset. Once that seemingly random event occurs, Chatter no longer displays my Fastmail inbox, or anything else for that matter, and soft resets when I exit the program. The only fix that I've found for this, so far, is to do a restore from backup, and wiping everything out.

I don't know if it's related, but I am still evaluating Chatter while I try to convince my employer to enable IMAP on our Exchange server. I had just reached the halfway point in my trial the last time this started. Doing the Sprint upgrade reset my trial clock since it was a new installation. This time I am again about half way through the trial.

I know I need to buy, and I fully intend to, but both times I've been almost ready to by it this has happend.

I haven't read up on the logging procedure yet, but I'm not sure it would help anyway. If you'd like me to try it can, but since it's hard to isolate the timing of the initial problem, I'm not sure I can force it to happen.

    Any ideas?

(sorry for the long post, but I wanted to be as complete as possible)

Hi, Mike. The Sprint updater has caused LOTS of problem.

What I've been suggesting is that people remove Chatter ENTIRELY from their Treos (using the Launcher or Filez, making sure that all files with creator ZRK* have been removed). Then, reload the software and rebuild the Mailboxes manually (don't reload them from a backup; it would make sense to remember the settings, of course).

I don't know what version of Chatter you're using, but I'd suggest using the latest beta.

Thanks Mark, I'll try that tonight and let you know how it goes.

BTW, you do sleep, right? :-)

    Mike....
    Let me testify...
After the 1.08 update my treo started to resest 3 or 4 times a day.
Each time preferences would be lost completely.
I finally bit the bullet and hard reset...
    renamed backup folder...
    Hotsynced...
and then reloaded everything again, including Chatter.

My phone has worked flawlessly through extnesive use.
Not ONE random reset has occured in over a week!

I've been experiencing similar things myself Longstrider. I think I'm just about to bit that bullet too. It'll be pretty easy since my PC's brand new SATA drive took a dump last night.

    Mark,

I did a hard reset, and reloaded my Treo. I now have a vanilla 650 with Chatter, Pocket Tunes Deluxe, Docs to Go, Filez, KeyCaps600, PDANet, PDAReach, and Ringo.

I have not configured Chatter yet, but now when I open Chatter, the phone makes a full volume reminder chime, three times, then gives me the following error:

    MemCheck Failed, heap= 0 sin

It does that until I try to close Chatter by opening another program. At that point, it soft resets.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

That tells me that your Treo's memory is still screwed up (it's just reporting that the heap is corrupted).

HOW exactly did you reload your Treo after the hard reset?

I had a hard drive failure earlier this week, so I took the opportunity to redo the Treo after I rebuilt my PC. So, I did the hard reset, then installed the Palm Desktop software just like I'd never had it before. ONce that was done, I installed Chatter before anything else, then the rest of the software was installed.

Everything was fresh on the Treo side and the PC side.

MikeK2 - Then, I'm not sure what to say. The reset is caused NOT by Chatter, but by Chatter's determining that one of the heaps is corrupt.

Sounds like he needs to perform a Zero Out Reset:

Amazingly, I was able to pull off that complicated manuever on the first try!

Thanks for the link Bill. This time I have added Chatter first, and configured it. SO far so good there. Now, I'll start adding apps back to my Treo, and see how it goes. I'll keep you guys posted.

    Bill -

Can you post another link for the Zero Out Reset procedure? When I chose the link that you provided, I was forwarded to a Palm Support search page with No Results posted.

    Thanks
