TreoButton from simplepalm.com will let you "remap" what apps your buttons open. You can program the basic buttons the shift + and the alt +. So you get 12 possibilities. Oh ya the jog wheel too, 13. It works on the T300.

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, but this function comes built-in with the Treo 600/650.

In the Phone app, go to Menu, and there should be an "Edit Favorites Button" option. This option will allow you to assign your apps to any letter key.

Once assigned, hold down the key in the Phone app and the assigned app will launch.

use Butler inconjunction with the builtin favorites. you will be able to launch apps via press and hold from any app.

I believe sickboy is talking about pressing/holding (not just clicking) the 4 main buttons (Phone, Calendar, Messaging, and Power). Yes, Butler's Keylauncher is "key". Another nice utility is ButtonsEx (freeware, by the way), which allows mapping of apps to the 5-way nav...very helpful.

Also, TreoButton does not add any functionality to the Treo 650, as the shift + feature does not work. Option + is built into the Treo 650...

Even with these options, however, I agree with sickboy that the ability to map a few more apps to the main hard buttons (by pressing and holding) would be very convenient and it seems very possible...

I agree with TR30, I think the built-in app does a fine job of press and hold shortcuts. On mine (the 600) the favourites is the "up" button on the 4-way navigator on the phone screen, and it allows you to assign apps, not just speed dial phone no's. Yes, it only works from the phone screen, but since I need to press one of the four main buttons anyway to turn it on (I have keyguard activated, I need to press a main button and the centre button of the 4-way navigator right away), it's no big deal to always use the phone button to turn it on when I want to use an app. The challenge is remembering which button I used (m for sms, w for web browser but after that it got a little tricky keeping one-letter speed dial numbers straight with app launchers). I'm not sure what a bought add-on would do extra to be worth paying for.

Yeah, I know. But that's one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.
