Now that everyone has had the upgrade for a while, have you noticed any big differences in the stability of your phone? I had almost no resets before (once I figured out the ideal set of apps for me), but now, I get random resets and a lot more locking up...For example, today I tried to answer the phone and BOOM, locked. Soft reset needed to get any functionality. Just wanted input from all the other upgraders.

Also, I have had a lot more difficulty logging onto vision, then locking up. I have to soft reset before I can get it to log on. All in all, the extra memory is not worth all of the headaches...

I have not added any programs. If anything, I keep deleting them hoping to find a faulty app. The only thing it MIGHT be is that I updated chatter, but it was clearly doing this before that. So there I am, back to square one.

    <sigh>

I just want it to work the way it's supposed to...but I DO want to love you Treo...<wipes tear from cheek>

My speaker phone really messed up . So after the visit to 3 different Sprint Stores in the New Orleans area I found one with a working phone tester. So the usual 20 minute wait they tested the phone ( or just let it sit in the back for 20 more minutes) came out and said "this is a known problem" So, I go back next week for a new one when it comes in.
Before the update my speaker phone was great.

The more I read about this 1.08 updater, the more inclined I am to say screw it, and not do it on my month old SprintPCS Treo 650.. it seems like it's a flip of the coin thing.. half the people say it's wonderful, the other half report random crashes and oddness they didn't have before they applied it.. I think I'm just going to live with the phone the way it is with 1.03, because {{knock wood}} it's working fine..

Memory is about half full, I don't have the phone loaded down with third party apps.. there isn't a single "hack" on it (I had Grafitti Anywhere on it for a while until I got the hang of the keyboard, so I don't even use that any more).. the only things on it that didn't come on it are Mapopolis V2.3 with iGolf's SDIO GPS driver (and a Panasonic SDIO GPS receiver stuck in its card slot most of the time) and a couple of maps, SnapperMail 2 Enterprise edition, HandZipper Lite, FreedomInput's Freedom Keyboard bluetooth driver, and FileZ. Using the built-in apps to generate data, maybe 200 contacts, a dozen camera pictures, a dozen Blazer bookmarks. That's it kids.. I've got a Zodiac 2 with a truckload of memory to play games and run other stuff on.. so freeing up a couple of meg on the Treo is not mission-critical for me.. I use it for the phone, web, email, SMS and GPS stuff the majority of the time I'm using it..

I've read enough horror stories here to convince me that applying the 1.08 updater to it isn't going to benefit me and could end up being an exercise in sorrowful weeping..

Do NOT send email to harv at treocentral dot com - it will never reach me.. forwarding from that address to my real address was hijacked in early 2008, and I can't fix it.. send me a private message instead or email me directly at my RR address..

I had a rather difficult time with the upgrade and was getting all kinds of resets for the first few days. Turns out that a few wierd appointments were causing Versamail to reset the phone every 30 minutes when the autosync connected to my corporate Exchange server. Corrected the appointments and have only had a couple of resets since (a couple weeks). My opinion, it's very much worth it, but not perfect.

The more I read posts on here the more paranoid I get about this thing. I look for problems now.

I have found that the audio quality has improved with respect to callers on the other end hearing less choppiness" and the TREO 650 not sounding like a 1985 analog bag phone to those on the other end of my calls.

So far, I am able to use the phone to make calls to clients, which is a first since December when I received my first of three 650's; none of which were able to be used to make calls to clients due to complaints by clients of terrible T650 audio quality and lack of full duplex.

    Thanks

Maybe there is a corrupt database on your phone? You might try a hard reset, and then don't sync your old backup data (rename your backup folder), and instead reinstall the apps individually one by one, manually, as if from scratch (dragging them into the Quick Installer PC app). This seemed to improve things for me.

Since the Sprint 1.08 update I cannot hotsync my calendar or contacts. Both cause the hotsync to hang indefinitely until I force it to stop. I tried downloading the new conduits for Outlook from PalmOne's website. No good. I have switched to Palm Desktop and it still won't sync. Very frustrating. Guess I will have to do a hard reset and manual install. (and yes I have read every post about this issue...)
    Sniff.

Personally, I haven't been able to sucessfully complete a Hot-Sync since updating to 1.08. The update was problematic for me but I finally managed to get it done. As for the hot-sync, I'm not REALLY worried about it. It's a rare thing for me to ever do it.

I've had no resets and no problems at all to speak of since the update was installed. I wasn't having a LOT of problems before that, however. The biggest difference I noted was the improvement in memory allocation. I about tripled the available room I had.

If your Treo is working well and you don't need additional internal memory, then there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to do the upgrade. I say this because I was in the say situation with my Sprint Treo 600.

My phone was working great with no issues (on my origianl phone from Oct 2003). So when the firmware upgrade became available in Jun of 2004, I decided not to upgrade since there were too many horry stories. I didn't need the recording feature and whatever else was added, therefore not a compelling reason to upgrade.

My phone is still working great(knock on wood).

The update definitely made my Treo more stable. I went from a reset at least once a day to not having any (except having to reset because of using BT DUN) since the update. I haven't noticed a difference in audio quality but I've been using Shadowmite's dialer patch so I never had a problem before. I gained about 4 mb of memory, the delay in dialing has been dramatically reduced, and everything just seems to run more smoothly. I agree that if you're not experiencing problems without the update then don't bother with it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But if you think your Treo is a little too buggy then I'd say go for it.

I had a few problems initially, but used FileZ to delete preferences to some programs and I've had no problems since.

Really only two issues I have found since the upgrade...

    1. The speakerphone is significantly quieter.
    2. I have random turn-offs for example I will quick dial someone it will start dialing and then I will be waiting for an answer, look down and the phone is turned off. Makes it even more confusing since the delay in dialing is still there. Often I end up with my phone to my ear and it being off.

Other than those two issues I think the upgrade is well worth it.

    Guys and Girls,

I'm GSM, but when I heard everyone ranting about the Sprint updater, I was optimistic... it sucks hearing all of your disappointment, you all really do care about the future of the Palm Platform and deserve better than this.

Please take a look at who's signing the petition and exactly what they're saying at www.treo650update.com it's significant... they sound just like you all.

Then, if you care enough, just sign the petition and then at least you can say "Yep, I did try everything" and mean it.

    Thanks guys.

I have the same problem. I even posted a thread, but got one answer that didn't help. I read the support docs at palmone.com that didn't help either. it's frustrating. Not sure what to do.

No problems for me before the update.

After the update I've just got more space and higher volume.

Best way to find and resolve a reset issue would be to do a reset that wipes everything clean then try adding 1 app at a time over time...

I know PocketTunes just released another update which is about the 2nd or 3rd recently because of reset issues caused by just that app.

since the update I have had less unexpected resets but seem to have a problem to maintain my data connection when I try to download a page from blazer I have started getting communication error page download could not be completed try again later. I then have to do a soft reset then everything is fine untill I try to connect again. I am running chatter and varichat maybe one of them is hogging my connection. I did not have this before upgrade
