Thanks doomsey! Great utility and I'm very impressed that you've gone the open-source route with this, perhaps I'll take a look inside and be inspired to write something for the palmos one day ::crossing fingers::

I have been using KB Lights v0.6 (version before it became a trial and added the bells and whistles) and found this program to work equally great, espically since it doesn't interfere with the program (camera) I have associated with the side button which I feared at first (the keyboard's light does change it's current state for just a second, but it quickly goes back). Glad to see that it doesn't add a program icon and that it doesn't need to be run after a reset. Thx again!

Anybody tested keyshades on 600 yet ?

    • I do have Profiles installed, and that dims the screen at night.....might that have anything to do with it? Also, I had mLights installed at one point, but it was uninstalled. I've never tried kblightsoff.

    Thanks doomsey!
It works for me now! I'm so happy...I love this program...thanks Doomsey!

I uninstalled CradleCare and upgraded my ZLauncher to the 5.2 version, and after that, it started working again. woohoo!!

Thank you Doomsey..keyshades is great! I also rarely need the KB lights and they probably eat alot of my battery for nothing...problem solved!!

I had the same problem as Lorea with Keyshades, but a soft-reset did the trick, and now it works fine.

    Fantastic app, thanks Doomsey!!

Great app. One thing though, if you dim the screen using option+right shift while the KB lights are off they come back on with the screem dimmed.

That's not terribly surprising (the API that I use to turn off the keyboard backlight also controls the screen dimming), but I can't duplicate it here. If you're running any other software that can control screen brightness or keyboard lights, it may be interfering with the operation of Keyshades.

    Hey Doomsey,
I will give keyshades a shot later tonight. BTW.. will you be willing to answer some dev related questions? I've written up some utilities for myself but I haven't been able to control the focus as I'd like it. If you have some experience controlling the focus of the 5-way, I'd like to start a separate thread maybe in the dev forum.

    Thanks,

WOW, I've searched for 2 days for that KB app. I didn't want to buy anything yet, because it's SO darned expensive to own this.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

KBlightsOff doesn't do that.... It does however change the screen from dim to bright if it was already dimmed when you turn the kb lights off. If you dim the screen after the lights are off nothing changes.

    Hi doomsey,

Thanks again for keyshades. It world great.

Any chance you could come up with a utility like Qset that lets you reduce the compression of the JPG taken by the Treo 650 camera. Qset doesn't work on the 650. It was written by an secret programmer, so I can't ask for the original programmer to update.

Damn I wish I knew how to program.

Probably not. I don't use the camera much, but the default compression doesn't seem terribly inappropriate to me. Unless you're seeing noticable blockiness or haloing in your pictures, you're not going to get much reducing the compression ratio aside from your pictures taking up more space.

No problem. Just thought I'd ask.

I actually noticed a HUGE improvement of image quality when I used Qset on my old T600 and moved the compression from the default 65 to 90. The pictures were about a third larger, but looked so much better.

Mine defaults to 99, and make very nice 6x4 color prints.

    On the 600, right?

That's what I'm saying. The camera on the 600 set with qset to less compression takes WAY better pictures than the camera on the 650 with the default compression.

    So sad.

I tried keycaps650 out recently, and noted there's some compatibilty problems with keyshades. it wouldn't be too difficult to fix, but I'm lazy, so I was kind of curious if I should bother...

I guess, let me know if you use both and, and are having a hard time tapping the side button without triggering keyshades. If it's a problem for people, I'll go ahead and fix it. If not, I'll put it off for a while. There's plenty of other things to do! I'm slowly ploughing through porting some hiptop software I worked on a while back, and there's always the day job.

i have keyshades and keycaps650, i have no problems. i hold the side button and when the lights go off or come on i let go. if i hold it it launches real player just like it should. what problems are you speaking of? i didnt know you could assign the side button to keycaps, i thought it was either enabled or disabled via the keycaps screen.
